Just curious, do you have a security system for your home? Does it make you feel safer? Do you think having a security system really deters would be burgulars from breaking into your home?

There was a system in our house when we moved in, but we never signed up for the service. We still have the little sign out front and the pad on the entryway wall, but it isn't connected to anything. The sign alone probably would help deter many would-be theives; but our dog, I think, is a far bigger factor. He barks quite loudly and visciously when anyone other than myself or my BF come into the front yard or walk close to the house. I suppose if you had something that a burglar really wanted, they might try it anyway, but we don't have much of value, so it would not be worth the risk or effort for someone to break into our house.

No, I don't. The only thing of value I have is a TV and an outdated computer (it is only valuable because I use it). I do have a lot of books that are worth something, but you would have to know which ones to grab out of the hundreds I own. A couple of weeks ago, someone tried to get me interested in one--I told the truth I am a college student that has been living off of my student loans; there is no money for a system.

I don't have a security system in my home but I am certain that I would feel much safer. I suppose they don't stop all burglars but have got to believe they help. I wrote an article on security systems this past year and according to information I found even the 'appearance' of a system helps to deter - the burglars just move on to a home that doesn't have a system.
