If you are like me and have some extra weight to lose and want to do it in a healthy way, you might be interested in visiting the website I use to track my progress. I have a free account at http://www.fitday.com where you can keep track of several things including the foods you eat, your daily activities, your weight, your goals, and more. You select the foods you eat from their extensive lists, and add them to your list of foods eaten for the day. The calories are added up, along with some of the other nutrients. If your food isn't listed, you can add it to the list as a custom food using the nutrition information from the label. You also choose the activity you are doing and add it to your activities for the day. If my activity isn't listed I just pick something as close as I can from the list so that the calories burned are about the same. It will add it all up for you and let you know how many calories you burned, how many you have eaten, and how everything compares. It even graphs things out for you so you can watch your weight go down (hopefully) over time.

OOOH, I want this since I have an active job. I am curious as to how much I burn working! Thanks for this. I think it will help me to keep track of how I spend my energy. Also since I am aware of what I eat I hope to improve my knowledge. Knowing when to have a treat is also important. Thanks for sharing this with us.

It really helps me in keeping track because I don't have to worry about things like counting calories or anything like that. I just input what I ate and what I did and it does the rest for me. There are a lot of great features there. I think that you will like it.

I have input my stuff so now it remains to be seen how I eat for dinner. With my activities for the day I am ahead of the game. Maybe my hubby is right that after I go through menopause I can get my leaner shape back! lol Thanks for sharing it.

It is interesting when you start keeping track. You can really see any unhealthy patterns you have, and where you should make changes. Also, just being accountable for everything you put in your mouth makes me think twice about snacking.

I like it because I don't have to keep track of every calorie and do all of the math myself. All I have to do is input the foods and exercise and the website does all the rest for me. It really does help.

Oh Kelly, I love that site! Thanks for the link! I am a member of sparkpeople.com, which is very similar. I really enjoy the exercise area of sparkpeople. It actually has demos of the various exercises which one can watch! I got an exercise ball and needed help in finding exercises to do with it and also wanted to be sure I was doing them right! There is also a plethora of great articles to read about nutrition, healthy lifestyles and more. Sparkpeople is also free for those who join. There is a place to make a personal page and set goals for everything from drinking water to weight loss! I love it! Between these two sites, we have no excuse do we?! uh oh...!

I used Weight Watchers Online program. It was not free but I really loved all that it offers. You record all that you eat every day. I was on the points system so it automatically adds up your points. Each day it gives you simple meal choices that fit into your points for the day. It also keeps track of your weight loss. It has an extensive recipe section. I learned all kinds of new recipes. I lost over 25 pounds.

That's great if you want to pay for it. A friend of mine also lost quite a bit on Weight Watchers and was really happy with the program. I needed a free program though, and this site along with what others have mentioned in their responses are more within my budget. Congratulations on your weight loss.

I have been using it for quite a while now, and have found that when I make sure that I record everything faithfully I do much better at my weight loss. When I started letting things slide and stopped tracking my progress on the site, I noticed my weight start to creep back up again, so I'm back to tracking things again. I hope that you will find this site as useful as I have.

I love it so much! But I will check this one out for sure just in case someone else I know might like that one better!

I think that they all have their good points and some may be better in some areas than other ones. There was another one that I had been to in the past, though I can't recall where it was. I know that I liked this one better though because this is the one that I stuck with. Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with belonging to more than one site since they often have different features that can be helpful to us.

This is kinda cool! I've seen sites like these before but you had to pay for them. Even though I had gastric bypass I still have to be careful what I eat or I can put the weight back on again. No way I want to go thru all of that only to gain it all back! Thanks for the site! :)

Wow - great site, have you belonged to it long? I've seen others like this but they just give you a free trial then want to charge you money - which I can never afford. I've bookmarked the site to sign up later.

I have been a member for over a year now. I don't always keep as close of track of things as I should, but I have noticed that when I hold myself accountable by recording these things, that I do much better at achieving my weight loss goals.

I've been using fitday for about 3 months now. I actually downloaded it so I can use it without being connected to the internet. You are so right, as it monitors just about EVERYTHING you do and eat. :) If I could make 2 changes to the program, I would have it divide my foods into the food pyramid so I know I'm getting enough fruits and veggies. I would also like to add a TransFat category, so I know and understand that I'm puttig that awful stuff into my body. (I'm trying very hard to avoid that stuff!!!) Well, back to recording my meals. Thanks forthe reminder!! Happy weight loss!!!

You are right, those would be great additions to the site. I know that I don't always get enough fruits and vegetables, so this would be a really good thing for me.

This sounds like a fantastic website, kelly. I will have to go and have a look. I could do with a little help in that area, but i dont have much willpower when it comes to weight loss. It is good to hear of something that is free, as most like to take money from you. Best wishes to you

I have a problem with willpower too sometimes, but even if you just make yourself keep track of everything you are eating, it is a bit more of a motivation because you are less likely to go back for more if you know you have to mark it down. :P
