Where did the force field fence come from?

The force field fence is not only beyond the quite old technology level of the Dharma Initiative, it is beyond our present technology level. So where did it come from? Even the the push button controls on it are beyond the Dharma technology though not our present day level. Just another enigma of the island they may never explain, I guess.
