My mom just knows a little bit, and she usually reads online news or books. When the date I taught my dad about internet, he was addicted to it. Today he seldom makes a phone call, he prefers to use SMS sent by internet, email or the communication software like MSN. He think the people don't know how to use internet are quite outdated. He ever said he wouldn't get in touch with anyone who doesn't have an email account:)

No but my mother is 80 yrs old so I don't think she is going to learn now. I would be happy if she would just learn to use the remote.

No, my parent are not so educated so, day don't know how to use Internet. But,I always tell them about this miracle of today's world. They feel very amazed with it. I taught my brother and cousins, how to use Internet. I tell them how it can help them in their studies. I also make sure them that they know how actually use it for their benefit. I take them to Internet cafe and show them different useful things.

My mom knows some of the basics, but doesn't like to use the computer, my dad knows many of the basics. He doesn't have an email address, but he pays his bills online, and sometimes he'll look online for news and such. Have a nice day. Pablo

It's strange that it seems your dad already knows a lot of the main usage of the internet but hasn't an email account.

Neither of my parents know how to use the internet. My mum took a few free lessons that they held at her local library but because she doesn't have a computer, she has lost what she learnt. We were thinking of getting her a laptop, but she needs a landline for internet connection which she doesn't have so we shall see!

my mom knows enough about the internet to check her myspace account and use that. other than that, she doesn't know how to download anything or upload anything or just surf in particular. but that's a start.

Of course, my late parents didn’t know how to use internet as old timers seldom used computer in those old days. When my kid was small I used to teach him how to use computer but nowadays computer has been improved tremendously that in many cases I have to seek help from him instead.

Both my father and father-in-law have passed away several years ago. My mother and mother-in-law (the latter is staying with me) know nuts about internet. In fact, they know nothing about even operating a PC. They only know what a PC looks like through its appearance, and will not even know how to turn one on. You can say that are very outdated when it comes to technology.

I am not surprised to hear that. Some elders also don't know how to use ATM and they prefer to go to the bank instead.

You are absolutely right about them using ATMs. Somehow anything that requires an electronic card that has a barcode or smartcard chip scares them. Can't blame them really. ATM technology wasn't prevalent at the time they were in the prime of their worklife.

My father is very familiar with internet. With his line of work, he sets up wireless internet connection at hotels, schools etc. He also spend most of his update in learning through internet. It is indeed very useful. My mother on the other hand, doesn't use the computer. If ever she does, she needs to be assisted by her children.

I am glad and proud to say that my mum knows how to use the internet! and is pretty good at it too! I taught her how to use it and also, sometimes when she encounters problems on the net about settings and etc...... i help her out. She does online banking and play games (yes, my mum plays games LOL! pacman :D) she also earn money online by buying and selling shares which is great, (earning more than myLot lol!)

hahahahaha, YES my mum is really smart, and pretty, in my eyes =D she is the perfect mum. We talk about just about anything, very open minded and we are a close family. My dad also knows how to use the computer quite well, he actually have to face the computer most of the day doing his work and organizing his own business (there are lots of things you have to be careful of when running your own business.) On my mother's side, i have many uncles who work in the computing industry and they are all so pro! xD

My parents don't know well about internet. Especially my mom. She even doesn't know how to use computer(maybe..;p). But my father knows a little bit about internet. Coz he might be use it for his job. But not so addict with it. Only for some purpose only. He thinks its not necessary to do all things with internet, its not simply things he said..haha

My mother works as a secretary, but she is mostly clueless about the Internet. Like, she saves sites as favourites and then has to ask me where the favourites are listed because she can't find them, even when they're right under her nose. ;) My father has never surfed the Net in his life. He's always scared when I chat to people because he says everybody who uses the Internet is a pedophile. Once he told me a story about a girl who met someone in a chat room, the usual, and I pointed out I'm never in chat rooms, I talk to people on forums. And he was like, what's a forum? I mean, he warns me about chat rooms and he doesn't even know what they are!!! XD

My mother still thinks my monitor is the computer, and my modem is the CD Rom drive. She still thinks the tower is just a metal box. I try not to laugh. She has at last figured out the 'little record player' that is a DVD player. She knows which side to put the DVD in on to get the little sucker to play. She hasn't blown the microwave up, or fed a video tape into the VCR backward yet. She's getting better. Gadgets still don't like her. Mom was born in 1937. Life then was very different. Radio was the rage, Mom didn't see a TV until the 1950's. She was born in Alaska, before it became a state.

My parents didnt have any chance of learning on how to use the internet. Even I myself got the chance of using the Internet, when I was at the age of 16. My father is much interested in learning on how to use the computer and internet and I am planning to do within the next 2-3 months. Till today, it was my parent who taught me everything, I feel good that I can teach something to my parent now.

Be patient and show them nice usage of the internet, perhaps your parents will be interested in it soon.
