Why Do People Go Stupid Over New Technology?

Just about everyone in the world knows about the recent release of the iPhone. There were people who waited in line for 4-5 days to shell out $600 to get the most advanced cell phone released yet. There have been fist fights and robberies that have occurred while potential buyers are waiting for their chance to own this revolutionary device. There were similar reactions by people who went to buy the Playstation 3, XBOX 360, and Nintendo Wii. What is it about owning the newest technological toy that drives people crazy?

People that love technology usually are the ones first in line. I think it is crazy to spend that much money on something like that, without knowing if it works well or not first. I prefer waiting to find out how well it does before I consider buying it. It would not have that much use for me since I rarely use my cell phone to begin with and the Iphone is still too small for internet surfing. I would prefer getting a laptop computer. Even the Philly mayor was waiting in line for hours waiting for this phone.

I don't see what the big deal about being the first to have these things is, they go down in price too if you wait a while before buying them. Society tries to programme us to be consumer orientated and some people must really buy it and think products are the most important thing in life. Sad really that so many people seem to believe that what they have defines them more than there own character.
