I was coming home from work and a student drivers car was pulled over by a cop. I could not understand why a cop would pull over a studnt that was taking a drivers course to learn to drive. The cop even had his lights on.What are your thoughts on this?

I really dont think that the driving instructor would do something like this. The driver instructor was not driving at this time it was the student. And two other students were in the back seat and the driver instructor was in the passenger seat.

That may have been the problem then, here in my state at least, no one else can be in a car on public streets with a driver only holding permit but one person. It sounds like there were 4, and that is not allowed by law, not even for a driver instruction program. I am willing to bet too many people was the problem.

In my state you can have three students at a time in a car to take the drivers course. Plus the teacher. thanks for your comment.

I guess it would be a lessen learned by the student driver to pull over when you see the flashing blue lights.

ya you are right, probably the cop was testing him to see if he would pull over when he turns on his lights. Good answer elusive.

Could be any reason, from a head light, brake light, tail light, turn signal light burnt out, could be the tag was expired. Maybe he was speeding and the instructor didn't notice. Did you see the cop turn on the lights and pull the car over? Maybe the car was disabled, and the cop was providing assistance. Sometimes things aren't always what they seem.
And, when a cop pulls some one over, it's a safety issue to have the lights on, and it's usually the department's policy and state law if they stop a vehicle to have their overhead lights on. If he didn't have the lights on, and someone hit the patrol car or the other car, guess who'd be sued???

Yes I did see the cop pull the car over, but you are probably right, it had to be a reason to dod this. The drivers car might of had a light out or something. Thanks for your response

If he/she was still breaking a law, the cop has to issue a warning or ticket. Driving is something so many take for granted and never think about how dangers this huge peice of moving metal and glass from mere inches away from people and other cars, really are.

Here when a student driver is learning to drive, and they do something wrong the teacher in the car will let them no. That is why they take the course to learn. When the cops see the student drivers car they usually dont pull them over. But in this case from another response that I got the maybe a light was burned out. thanks for your comment sunshinecup.

He was probubly just trying to scare the driver or something like that. some cops can be cruel sometimes. I think its wrong. The student must feel horrible. The Teacher must feel a little stupid too. I don't think its right unless they were doing something wrong.

It must have been something Serious for this to happen. It does seem a little odd as well, but I am sure they have Rules too they keep enforced, and I guess this shows bad on the Driving Instructor and for the school in the future as well. Plus then there are the parents as well.

Well, I did not know that they can do that. I thought the whole reason they have the student driver on their car is to show that they are learning and shouldn't get in trouble if they did anything wrong. I wonder what all that was about. Some cops think they are beyond the law and like to be on top of things all the time even when they are wrong. They need to slow down a little bit.

Some cops just wanna harrass people or maybe he just wanted to make sure that he had a permit to learn. Atleast here you have to apply for one before you can get behind the wheels.

the cops here do a lot of harrassing. But I dont really see the point of him turning on his lights to pulled over the student when he was with his teacher in the car.Maybe he was checking to see if he had a permit. thanks for your comment Marie

Are you sure that there was a student behind the wheel? I have seen those cars with only the instructor in them. They are driven more than when just kids are in them. Of course with the way our society is changing it would not surprise me if there was an irresponsibile teacher letting the kid drive stupidly. Hope is was just the instructor though!!

Well, you just never know why the cop pulled them over. Maybe they had a light out and needed to be told or maybe the car had been stollen. There are just many possiblilities as to why the policeman pulled the student driver over.

If the student was speeding or in violation of some other law then it doesn't matter who is driving. Quite possibly the driver could have performed some unsafe act and the police was letting the person know or perhaps when the cop saw the person speeding he pulled him over with the lights and all to scare him or show him what happens when you violate the law.
