DO you have rechargeable batteries for your digital camera?

I do and I have a set of four. Well I usually keep two of them in my camera (after charging) and the other two I put on the inside zipper pouch of my purse (where I keep things that I use frequently)just in case I need them. Well today I went to the store and when I returned I went into my purse to get out my lighter inside the zipper pouch of my purse. I felt something hot and I could not figure out for the life of me what it could be. I thought maybe it was my silver rings because I wear 9 of them and when I take them off that is where I put the rings. I was wrong. I finally found the source of the heat. It was a battery for my digital camera! I thought what the heck? I know they do get hot after I charge them for a bit. But these have been in my purse for like two days after their last charge. I grabbed the battery and don't you know it sizzled and hissed and leaked acid right in my hands!!! I felt a burning sensation. I went right to the sink and washed my hands real good. I took all the jewelry and soaked it in hot soapy water to cleanse it. ]It was scary at first but being as the battery is so small I did not think it could damage anything including the material inside my purse or my jewelry. And in reality it did not. I just have never experienced this before. So my question is for others out there with rechargeable batteries...Have you ever experienced this before? Is this normal for batteries to do this? Mine are about 7 months old. And also I just wanted to alert others that this could happen so be careful where you store you batteries. I think maybe the heat of the sun may have played a factor in this. What do you think?

When you put the battery in a pocket don't put anything else in there that can make contact with the positive and negative ends of the batteries. I am sure the rings made contact with the ends of the battery causing this to happen. If the batteries were wrapped up in a paper envelope and then put in the pocket with the rings then I don't think this would have happened but I would put them in the pocket by themselves. Keys, your lighter (that's dangerous bacause of the lighter fluid) and any other kind of metals should be away from all kinds of batteries even a spare cell phone battery.

I thought the same thing after I posted this discussion. I think that may have something to do with it. Thanks Howard and how have you been?

I have rechargeable batteries, but they've never burst on me. My experience is with cheap alkaloid batteries from the dollar store. My son had a V-Smile and I got him some new games for it on his birthday. When I turned the game console over it was wet. At 1st I thought my son may of spilled some liquid in it and it was leaking out the bottom. Battery acid was everywhere! I ended up having to toss out the console because it was ruined. He had a few other toys that had battery acid seeping out from the same brand of batteries. I've learned to watch what brand I buy now. Last night I bought some of those little round batteries for a talking scooby he got from a yard sale. It didn't work so I was taking them out to check and see if perhaps I put them in wrong. They were very hot, so I left them out. I never thought anything about batteries bursting in my hand. You're very lucky that you didn't get severe burns or something.

Rechargeable batteris also run dry like regular batteries after so many times being recharged. They tend to get hot and burst like regular batteries also. I'd say time to buy new ones. I replace mine every 6 months or sooner as I charge them a lot. The more they are charged the weaker they get. I have a camera bag also. I own 4 sets of batteries for my Canon PowrShot A540 digital camera. I carry the manula, batteries, charger, lighter cord, and the camer lens cleaner all in the bag. The bags can be bought for $10 and up. Mine was almost $30 but well worth it. I carry that everywhere so I never forget how to use the camera and have spare batteries. Another good ide especially when traveling is carry an extra memory card etc. This way tou won't run out of space for the great vacation shots. Get a camera bag for the gear. I am looking at a new lens and tripod soon. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

yes, i have rechargeable batteries for my digital camera. i have four pieces and i think the brand is sanyo. i also have a charging pack that plugs directly to the wall electric sockets when the batteries needed charging. my batteries are about 2 years old so i really dont know what happened to your 7-month old batt. as for your unfortunate accident, that hasn't happened to me yet. it's scary to think you had battery acid on your hands, ughh!!

Wow that is scarey. I do have the same as you, 4 rechargable batteries but I always have 2 in the camera and 2 in the charger -it automatically shuts off when the batteries are charged but that way I always know I have a set charged. Battery acid is very very dangerous and those batteries should not have done that - I would contact the company that made them or check with the store where you bought them.

Rechargeable Batteries - A charger with rechargeable batteries
i have two sets of rechargeable batteries for my hp photosmart 435 digi cam. i recharge them both at the same time and put the two in the camera and other two in the camera bag without any other things inside. i never had experienced batteries leaked inside purses of bags. what i understand is that batteries leake due to continuous use or totally worn out. in your case, it could be that the metal objects inside your purse came in contact with the batteries that caused them to leak acid. batteries are to be kept safe by placing them inside small plastic packages and seprate them from other metals like jewelries and watches. rechargeable batteries have their own life span too. over recharging may easily wear out batteries.

Yes. I do have a Rechargeable batteries for my Camera. Not only for my Camera, but I also use them for charging the other batteries I use for other electronics items, such as FM Radio etc. But I have felt many times, that the Charging speed of the Rechargeable Batteries are quite high. Its need atleast 3-4 hours for getting the Batteries fully charged for my usage. With a lot of improvements in other fields of science, I believe there should be something done in the field of Battery also.

That is definitely a scary experience! I use a Rayovac charger and for some reason, it knows when the batteries are not good anymore and doesn't charge them so I toss them. I have to say I've used some of these batteries for over a year and they never exploded or leaked but I will be sure to inspect them next time they are charged.

I dont have them anymore. I use to use them, but they seems to die very fast. I now by disposiable batteries that are made for digital cameras. I use my camera a lot and they have lasted me a long time. They cost liek 10 bucks for 4 of them though, thats the only downside
