Now what do I do?.. Will it totally die or will it get better...I know it is a desert plant and doesn't need much water...

If it is from too moist soil then take it out of the pot shake the wet soil off and re pot it in dry soil. Or you can put the wet soil in the oven on low heat to dry it, just keep the roots wraped in a parer towel while soil is drying. This will also kill any bacteria that was growing in the soil.

I repotted the whole plant in dry soil...should there be holes in the bottom so all excess water drains out?

Awww hun!! ohh nooooo!! I never had a green thumb..but i did some searching onlien for the last hour for ya..and i found some great information..but the other person that reponded first is absoutely right..id add some fresh soil too..that should absorb what mositure u stil have in the pot and dirt..:) ok so heers what i found..u probably know it all lol..but ill send it anyways in case anyone else wonders too..take care and i wish u soo much luck on ur plant! Aloe vera is relatively easy to care for in cultivation in frost-free climates. The species requires well-drained sandy potting soil in moderate light. If planted in pot or other containers ensure sufficient drainage with drainage holes. The use of a good quality commercial potting mix to which extra perlite, granite grit, or coarse sand are added is recommended. Alternatively, pre-packaged 'cacti and succulent mixes' may also be used. Potted plants should be allowed to completely dry prior to re-watering. During winter, A. vera may become dormant, during which little moisture is required. In areas that receive frost or snow the species is best kept indoors or in heated glasshouses. there...thats what i learned lol..i love Mylot..im learnign soemthing new everyday!:) have a great day!
