How long is too long to wait for a man to ask you to marry him.

I waited 4 years for my boyfriend o propose. We were married a year later. We have been married for almost 6 years now. I think 5 years is long enough but I guess it really depends on the circumstances. We lived together for almost 4 years before we got married.
