Men and Technology

Well, we are without television tonight. I am not sure what exactly took place in the living room, but there were languages spoken that I have never heard before! All I know is what I heard my husband say "nothing works", (then something in Dutch uttered loudly). The DVD player didn't work, the VCR didn't work and the television didn't work. Now my hubby and our friend are trying to put their heads together to remedy the problem. Of course without any manuals. Hubby has misplaced them.

Hahaha! Men never keep the manuals!!! :D They, most of the time, don't even read them. I guess the only entertainment that men have is technology. They cannot go without television for a day. Not even my brothers can! haha I guess your hubby and your friend will have to entertain themselves so other way! :D

Gee and I thought we were in bad shape with no cable box. We had a power outage on Friday and it fried the cable box somehow (lord knows how b/c everything attached to the TV is on the same surge protector). After 20 minutes with the cable people & resetting the box 4 times I gave up and am returning the box on Monday. Bad thing: no cable box + no guide = random channel flipping almost non-stop. I hope he got the TV working again.

I usually try and do things without using the manual but I will refer to it if necessary. I keep my manuals all in one place so that it makes it easier to find them. If they are scattered around the house it will make things more difficult just finding the right manual. Many of the technology is easy to figure out on your own but some of it can be quite complicated. Hope that your husband gets the tv,vcr and dvd player working.

Did they ever get the tv fixed? There is only one thing worse than a man trying to fix something as important as the tv without a manual and thats two men trying to do it. I know when my boyfriend is trying to fix things, its best if I stay out of it.lol.

It was up and running that night. Sometimes it takes him a little longer to figure things out. But, when you think about it, the manuals are often too hard to read, you could figure out on your own how to fix it before you read the manual.

Well Butterfly, I think I will just sit here and giggle! How many times have we brought something home only for me to say, "First you need to get out a big tray and lay out all of the screws and little pieces on it then compare them with the pieces on the sheet of paper in the box". That used to be enough......but then the darned manufacturers had to go and complicate things even worse and make the plight of the anal retentive (that would be you and me) more anal puckering by putting all of the instructions in 3 different languages (at least). What man is really going to take the time to sort things around this massive amount of information? I really think we ought to lobby to manufacturers to put 3 different slips of paper into the boxes. We would once again stand at least a bit of a fighting chance that our shelving would have all 5 of the shelves as the picture on the box shows; and not a "spare one" in case something goes wrong with one of the other four! LOL ~Donna

IF they put the instructions in Dutch, my husband would love it. Would he read them? Probably not!

oh my that would be aweful when you really want to watch TV or a movie . My husband wouldn't know how to fix them even if he had a manual. He doesn't know how to turn on the VCR or DVD player. If they are broke we have to get a repairman. If ours were broken I wouldn't care, now when I really freak is when something is wrong with my computer. I use it for so many things .

Sounds like such an interesting life you lead. Dutch language in frustration. I hope things have evened out by now and that peace reigns in your home again. These electronics seem to know when to go out at the most oportune times for maximum frustration. I hope you come back and update us.

LOL...why are the words "stupid and non-productive" floating in my head. I know I heard/saw them mentioned not so long ago. Losing manuals...stupid, trying to fix the devices MANually, ....non productive, being able to giggle at the mere male's lack of skills....priceless.

It doesn't sound like they are having much fun. I hope they get the problem solved without too much more trouble. Otherwise you may be listening to a lot more Dutch if they are anything like some of the other men I know.
