You have injured a lot of little nerve endings...and they are angry..when you get a bigger cut, you sever them and they no longer transmit pain signals. Or there are a lot more never endings near the surface of your skin ...so yu feel it more...or maybe a combination of the ideas.

Ughh!! I hear ya! i hate them!! sometimes ithink that it would hurt less if i lost my finger instaed of a paper cut!! hahaha!...its not right..but i did some research after i read this why it hurts soo damn much and now i know..and i wanna share.. because it makes sense..i dont like em..but atleast now i know why they hurt like hell lol lol.. Paper cuts can cause surprisingly acute pain since they usually stimulate a large number of skin surface pain receptors (nociceptors) in a very small area of the skin. Because the shallow cut does not bleed very much, the pain receptors are left open to the air, ensuring continued pain. This is exacerbated by irritation caused by the fibers in the paper itself, which may be coated in chemicals such as bleach. Additionally, most paper cuts occur in the fingers, which have a greater concentration of sensory receptors than the rest of the body. The random orientation of collagen fibers in skin provides the ability to withstand pinpoint forces. However, skin does not have the same strength against shearing forces, and is easily cut. The same principle can be applied to performers that stand on blades. A drop of 'liquid bandage' or equivalent onto a papercut can seal the skin to stop pain as well as prevent further opening of the wound (as is common on a location such as a finger). I got this at Wikspedia..i just Xed out the link sorry!! lol!

I've never thought of that before...but they do hurt like the dickens! lol. Just thinking about it now gives me shivers! Maybe they hurt so bad because of something the paper puts into the cut as it slices...I don't really know though. That's the only explanation I can think of! :)
