Non Smoking Laws Enforced Today

Australia
July 1, 2007 4:23am CST
Hey all, today, being 1st July 2007 all across the state a new law came in that prohibits any persons smoking within a venue here in Australia. I find it amazing that we have finally done it, there has been much talk, and ebing a smoker myself (of about 1.5 years mind you) i believe that this is the perfect opportunity to stop. Thing is when i have attempted to cease smoking in the past, there has been complications with my anxiety. Let me tell you it's murderous. It's amazing also how i have been thinking of how i used to hate anyone smoking near me prior to lighting my first ciggarette, i also remember how it felt like taboo lighting a ciggarette up, and now quite frankly i am over feeling like i smell like an ashtray all day. I wash my hands after a smoke and i wash my mouth out. Is this what you'd consider compulsive? or perhaps an act of kindness to those around me who do not smoke? Let me know what you think.

I don't know but I always associate the night scenes with a drink and light up culture and frankly, a night out somewhere where you are not allowed to smoke seems absurd to me. Oh well, I am a smoker so I guess I am biased. Maybe there will come a day when they have smokers night once a week? haha

Ya.. i agree. they should a smokers night. I am a smoker, so I cant really imagine me at a pub without a smoke. Anyway, smokers are "endangered species". You think the breed will be extinct one day ?

Well i never thought i would see this day arrive .I remember back to a small child being in a room watching tv and both my parents were in there smoking we could hardly see the tv because of the amount of smoke it was really disguisting but we dare not say a thing as this was our parents .Last week my family and i went out for tea to the local club ,eventhough smoking has been banned in restraunts for a while the amount of smoke that had filtered through into the resteraunt was appauling i could hardly breathe .So as a result of these new changes i`m really looking forward to our next meal out together and now hopefully we can enjoy this one . I think it`s the best move our government has made in ages

Yeah it was the same at our place growing up, even my nan smoked when we visited her. We dare not say a word either, mind you we used to cough a lot because of it, and my step dad would continue, but my mum would butt out her ciggarette and apologise. Good on you mum! lol. She was appauled that i started smoking, i was so anti smoking as a child i near on started a campaign myself! and look at me now! lol. One thing i can't stand to this day is people smoking when others are eating. it is disrespectful. I dont let anyone smoke around me if i am eating a meal, snacks are okay, i can cope with that, but people smoking around me if i am eating will put me off my food.
