Yes, it is sad. I don't know if you remember the protest song.. God on our side? I think it was Dylan, but could not swear to it. But it wen something like... when we push the button we will have God on our side. And ended with "the Russian's too, will have God on their Side."
That seems to be the way it is in the relative world of ours, it has gone on for thousands of years. The only answer is enlightenment and then we can transcend our belief systems. Lennon had something in his song, Imagine. Through belief system he was murdered. I often wonder that if he didn't have this philosophy would he have lived - for mankind always seems to shoot the messenger.

oh wow yes what you say is true we certainly do think in terms of god is behind us. But when an idea is so powerful that people are willing to blow themselves up to defend it, i would say humanity is not fit to hold the idea

Yes, beliefs are dangerous, that's why in Zen they are "exchanged" for experience. One experience of God, can put and end to such destructive behaviour.
i would say humanity is not fit to hold the idea
Humanity created the ideas. Most religious teachers (if some of these fanatics would take the trouble to learn from), say that God is Love, God is One. If this is true, and the teachers said so, I can't see how taking one's own and together with the life of others has got anything to do with love. They have reversed the whole concept of God, but that is nothing new in the history of humanity.
We are so slow to learn. The teachers have kept coming, famous ones and not famous ones. All teaching the same values. They must think we're worth it.. Or do they?

Yeh it makes you wonder doesn't it, I don't think any religion condones killing, I find it hard to believe these people were ones innocent little babies, what happened from that time til now, why are these people fighting, do they really know why themselves, i just wish some one could make them see sense that life is so short and precious they should just be trying to be happy themselves and make the most of the gift of life...

They certainly don't value human life much. Allah is the only important thing in their lives. But, like any religion, you get some twisted people in there corrupting it. They don't approve of our western culture, everyone must be just like them and bow down to Allah. Well, sorry, I have no intentions of dressing in black from head to toe with only my eyeballs showing. If they on't approve of our culture, then why are they living here? I don't ram my religious beliefs down anyone's throat so why should they get away with it. These extremists are driving the rest of us nuts. But, no matter what they do, they will not change us. We fought too hard for our freedom.

That is one reason that I believe Islam is a very dangerous religion.
There is one true God and that is the Living God Who loves us more than we can ever imagine! He is the One Who sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to come into this fallen, sinsick world to save us from our sins. He was totally perfect...without sin, but became sin for us. He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty and we will all meet Him face to face!
The Bible teaches us to love one another as Christ loves us. We are to care for each other.
Look at Jesus and let Him be the true role model for our lives!
God bless.

Well, Im not a christian, nor are most of the population of the world. So all you have said has fallen on stoney ground. I honestly dont believe faith has anything to do with such attrocities. It is people using faith to justify their murderous intent

please do not waste your feelings of sorrow on me. In my early 40s i made a decision to be happy and, so far Happy i am. I just wish you the clarity of vision for you to be able to see the rich diversity of good there is in this beautful planet and not allow your eyes to be blinded and your life blighted by such a miss-reading of the concept of God

I honestly hope we never figure out the answer to this question. It is truly madness to think that killing in the name of any GOD is just.

Crazy isnt it! The amount of murders, terrorist acts, brutalities worldwide all in the name of/for/because of God is positively MINDBOGGLING...and just one more reason I could never go back to Christianity in ANY form (denom)...And I honestly dont know whats more frightening..the fact that these nutjobs do it "in the name of" OR the fact that they are SO MINDFKED they TRULY DO believe their actions are justified and for the better of mankind and their god will be pleased with them!! I mean how brainwashed and insane exactly does one have to be to think like that and feel it so intensely right to their core....and just how screwed up to you have to be to be willing to pull a kamakazie ya know....I just dont get it...

Don't blame Christ for this. We must remember that Satan is very much at work in this world and many choose to follow satan and his lies instead of the Lord and His Truth.
True Christians would never even think about killing anyone.

I guess it has a lot to do with what you were taught about the religion. I've read much about islamic religion and I don't think it incites this kind of stuff but my guess is that like in any other religion there are people that use it for power over others and the same way I've seen it in the catholic religion - for example some years back a priest convincing the congregation that there was a earthquake because too many of them voted in the communist party - I bet that a lot of people explain the glories and godliness of something like this in such a way that people are brainwashed enough to do it.
Usually whatever wrong things are done in name of any religion don't come from the religion itself but from people perceiving and explaining the contents of their Holy books to their own interests.Which is sad, but true unfortunately.

Here's one of my absolute favorite lines from a TV show:
"Dear God, Save me from Your followers!"
It angers me when people use God as an excuse to do such horrible things. Whenever I hear of something like this all I can do is roll my eyes in "Not again..." fashion. I must tell you, though, Karen, I just watched a very interesting CBC documentary about this very topic. Apparently, Canadian intellegence was investigating possible terror cells here in Canada. One of their informants was an Islamic man who strongly adheres to Muslim tradition as does his family. During the interview for CBC, he explained that he was "ready to go" to Pakistan and/or Afganistan to "fight for Islam" but, as he put it, he was lucky to have mature teachers around him who explained the Muslim faith more clearly so that he would understand that these things (the events in Afganistan & Iraq) are not for him to fight. When one of the alledged terrorists told him of plans to blow up buildings, etc. the man in the interview was shocked at the lack of concern for innocent people.
According to this man (I wish I could remember his name), the Qur'an does say if you see something wrong you must "point your finger" because if you don't, you are just as guilty. Unfortunately, a lot of young Muslims have taken this statement too far in the sense that they feel obligated to do something about what is happening to Muslims in the Middle East and elsewhere. And, now with internet access, it is extremely easy for these young Muslims to see propagandic videos depicting the impoverished conditions of Islams while quoting from the Qur'an passages which call for Muslims to "point your finger", etc. The man in the interview said that young Muslims NEED good teachers in their lives because of the delicatness of Qur'an interpretation. He said that if it hadn't been for the people around him to turn him in the right direction, he would have gone to fight with the insurgents.

I think it is because they feel inferiour, pretend they are superiour and feel treated injust by the western world for quite some time. So naturally they ask their God why what they thought up didn`t work out.
It is human if things do not work out to scream "oh, why has God allowed this?". Not God`s mistake. It is a mistake in the line of thinking.
If I recall right in all the big wars in Europe every nation claimed God for themselves.
God is not for wars.

I do not believe that they are God worshippers if they are doing such things. Alah is also God so I wouldnt think that the same God who has infinite love and understanding could harbor such destructive people. If they think Allah will welcome them in heaven with open arms they are kidding themselves, what they will meet is Satan grinning hungrily at them at the gates of hell. No God would want to lead his children by killing innocents that is not what God wants and I hope these people realise that and the Satan's spawn who leads them die now!
