How often do you clean your carpets?

We had our carpets professionally cleaned when we moved into our house 3 years ago. Since then, I've only had to do spot treatments and things were fine. Well, now that we have a child (who isn't even mobile yet!!) our living room carpet is awful! I have a carpet cleaner vacuum that I used once in one of the bedrooms, so I'm going to try that in the living room this week. I think I'm only going to do the high traffic areas, and the spots that are messed up since I can't really move the furniture to do the whole floor. How often do you carpet clean your rooms? Do you high someone to do it, or do you have your own carpet cleaning system?

I have a carpet cleaner that I got from Walmart, I have to do my carpets every couple of weeks. We have two dogs that shed a lot of hair and after awhile, my beautiful green carpet loses its shine. So the cleaner picks up the hair plus all the dirt we track in. It feels so good to walk barefoot on my clean carpets. Once in awhile I'll move the furniture out of the way, not always. Depends on how much energy I have.:) I used to rent cleaners from the grocery store, then I realized that for as much money I spend on renting, I might as well buy something I can use whenever I want to.

I think our cleaner is a Dirt Devil brand. I'm not really sure. My husband's mom gave it to us when i was pregnant. I have only used it once in our son's room. It really did an awesome job! I really want to do our living room and dining room carpets so bad. We have 3 cats, and now with our son the carpet is so dirty. How long does it take for your carpet to dry when you do it?

I usually put a fan on it, but it doesn't take long at all to dry, maybe 1-2 hours.

I actually am getting rid of my carpets soon and putting in tiles and floorbaords throughout my place and use rugs. I believe this way my place will be much cleaner as rugs can be taken away and cleaned.

That is a good idea. My parent's put in wood floor in their house, and it really did make a big difference. It also eliminates alot of allergies due to carpets too! If I could afford new flooring in our house, I would elminate atleast the dining room carpet and put tile or hard wood. Maybe one day...

I typically shampoo the carpets once a month sometimes more. Since the weather has gotten warm and we are outside more I have slacked off some. I have never had someone come in and do it for me but would love to. We have recarpeted almost the entire house though. We are waiting for the kids to get older before we recarpet the livingroom since we spend most of our time there and it gets the most wear and stains.

Our dirtiest carpet is also in the living room. It's even more dirty in the living room than in the dining room, which is pretty odd to me.
