my younger sister is 13 too.. she's had a phone when she was 12.. but lost it.. (which just shows how irresponsible that is) and got another one.. Now, my mom is threatening to take her phone away because she spends too much time on texting and also using way too much money to call friends. And also, we just found out that she has a boyfriend who calls her cell. My mom preferred that my sister use my mom's phone so she can monitor text messages and phone calls. and her grades are dropping as well.. Anyways, just give her a trial period.. whenever you feel like she's not responsible with it, you can always take it back.. after all, you and your parents are still responsible for her... good luck with it! :)

yes i think she is old enough to have a cell phone, but you should guide her also just in case.

If there is a need for her to have one, then sure why not, but if its just because all her friends have one then I would think twice about that. You might find your cell phone bills creeping up and her forever texting and calling her friends all the time like 24/7. However if you lay down the law right from the beginning then give her a trial run and see how you go from there. I have never needed a cell phone even at that age but things are different now so its entirely up to you.

The cellphone is so common here. It seems that almost everybody has a cellphone. However, I still think it's a little bit early for a 13 years old teenager to have a cellphone. Here you won't be allowed to use the cellphone in the school even if you are a high school student. I think if it's not necessary, such as having a trip, it's not necessary for a teenager to have a cellphone.
