I had been using for the longest time the mouse that had just a little roller that you had to scoot along a mouse pad..After a while the mouse would lose it's scoot and I had to replace it. Today I got this mouse it's called optical ..not to expensive..I think I paid $12 or $13 for it at walmart. No more mousepads..there is some kind of red light that picks up your movement on any surface. I wont go back to regular mouses again.. What kind do you use..How much did you pay for your's and where did you get it from???

Hello.littlefransican,i do not use any mouse at all,the laptop I am using is the IBM one which there is a red cursor in the middle of the keyboard,i get use to control the cursor as i feel that is easier for me than to use the mouse.I had a mouse long times ago but it was broken down not long after i had used it,since then,i had not bought any mouses.

You must have an older laptop version? The laptops I see coming out have a little rectangular pad on which you trace your finger to select items ..etc.:)+

Wow, you gals are great in controlling the cursor moving the finger in the rectangular pad at the centre of the laptop. For me, I using a Compaq laptop with the rectangle pad that I can use. But, I am not good at it, I stiil use my optical mouse for my laptop. :o)

I use an optical mouse at work, it's the standard issue for our company workstations (Dell). At home I just use the touchpad on my laptop. It's not ideal for working on photographs or playing games so i bought a USB one, however, I use the laptop so little that the spare mouse has never been out of the box so I have no idea whether it's ball or optical. I found very little difference between the two mechanisms, but having optical is waaaay better than cleaning the crud off of mechanical mouse rollers.

YOu are so right..and even if there is no crud sometimes the old fashioned mouse acts up. I don't know how many times I took off the little disk in back because the little ball wouldn't roll properly. I decided enough was enough and broke down and bought a more expensive mouse..It is the difference between night and day;_+

I have the same type that you just bought. Mine come with the computer, the mouse is a HP. Yes, it is nice not having to take that little ball out and cleaning up the mouse.

I am using Optical mouse of Logitech, It just superb mouse ever i used, now the market rates are also going down. So i would suggest everyone use optical mouse, its also smooth working as well as dust free. Also just now bluetooth mouse also comes in market, its working on wireless technology.

I am on my second optical mouse now. The first one did not last long. It replaced the normal mechanical mouse. I bought both at a department store and they cost around 10 dollars each. See how long this one lasts. The mechanical one was the fastest, by the way. I notice, as I am a webgamer. So now it depends on the durability of the mouse that I have now. If this one gets broken as fast as the other one I will be back to the old system. The advantage is not to have a mousepad.

Tell me Inky..how does the optical mouse get broken..Is it a technical/wiring issue? Perhaps knowing this I should keep a few optical ones on hand. Myself, I love the speed and ease of use for the optical mouse..I don't want to go back to the little rolling mouse..It wears out quite quickly too!:)+
