My poor tired aching feet... What would soothe them?

I just came from walking in the park. It was a small hike as hikes go, but somehow today my feet really hurt. Maybe my shoes were not the most appropriate for walking for a long time. THe fact is that my feet hurt and I really want to make them all better LOL of course :) I just got them in water with some salt, it usually works but this time it didn't work that well. So what do you do when your feet ache?

I have a wonderful mix of peppermint, lavender and menthol which I keep in a spray. This works very well on hot and tired feet, very cooling and soothing.

Do you make this mixture yourself? It sounds wonderful and if you do I would love to know how you do it.

Yes, the lavender and peppermint really create miracle and relax... soothe the feet. I always used that after a long run.

When that happens, I will soak my feet in cold water. The reason the feet hurts is because something inside is sore and inflammed. So cold water helps to reduce and relieve the soreness. Many people will say that use hot water will sooth the ache. I believe so too until I read that hot water will make it worst if the inflammation gets worst.

I usually try the warm water with salt first because it usually works well with me. But if it doesn't then sometimes the cold water does the trick. I guess it depends on why they're hurting.

Well, my first suggestion was going to be a nice soak in some warm water with some epsom salts :) Try getting some lotion and giving them a massage. Works better if you have someone else there that can do it for you :)

Well I did soak them and following your suggestion got hubby to massage. He remembered we had a very nice gel that works wonders and indeed it feels much better now :) Actually we all lined up for a massage, kids included hehe now I just have to return the favor, his feet are hurting a bit too. We are used to hike for much longer but this was the first one this summer and although it was only 3 hours I guess we need to get used to it again slowly:)

A simple massege could do the trick, also try resting your feet and keep it elevated for an amount of time. I also love hiking, from hills and mountains. Sometimes, it takes a long trek before reaching the top. We take some rests for a while every now and then, then stretch our legs and keep our feet still for a moment. After that, we massage our feet up and down simultaneously!;)

Yes, the massage works, and it worked in this case. When we hike specially for a bit longer we have to be careful with what kind of shoes we wear. I think that was part of the problem, we weren't counting on doing the hike to the end and I had a pair of fairly comfortable sandals but not appropriate for all that walking.

I actually do a combination of several of the other suggestions here already. As you did I start with warm water & ebson salt. If that doesn't seem to help then I'll go to cool water - my arches really bother me sometimes and I'll actually make an ice pack and apply that to them but usually just running the cold water in the tub dangling my feet over the edge will work. If both of those fail then I have a 'hot cold' lotion I found at the store years ago - it feels warm when you first put it on but then changes to a cool feeling - it has menthol in it but the label came off and I don't know the name of it.

Hubby remembered we had a very nice gel. I had forgoten all about it, but I"m glad we still had some. It was cooling and did the trick when he massaged it into my feet - but then again maybe it was the massage that did it hehehe

I am a Shoe Salesman and I Fit lots of girls feet every day with Tennis Shoe. Hikeing, Running, Soccer, Softball, Track and ecct. When was the last time you had your feet measured with the Brannock Foot Measure Device "The Metal Foot Measure thing used to measure your feet in Full Service Shoe Stores?" My guess is without measuring your feet is that your Shoe not fitting your foot. There is 3 measurments to feet. Heel to Toe, Arch, Width. That is why I ask how long since your feet been measured. I guessing your Arch Length Size and Heel to Toe Size differ. That your Heel to Toe is Smaller than your Arch there for your Arches are not Supported like they should be .If you like more info please post here and I give you my e mail address and we can chat about it. Hope this helps; JD
