Hi I hope someone can help me. I want to set up my own website and am looking for a free web hosting site. I'm only really beginning creating web sites so paying money for a site at this stage isn't viable. I know there's lots of sites out there, but am wandering which are the best to use? Is there any that allow you to choose a full domain name for free - not just add your username to the end of their domain name? Also i have a very good program for creating websites, so is there any free ones that allow you to upload a created site via ftp? Or have a very good way of uploading files? The software generates lots and lots of files, so uploading a file at a time would take forever! Any hlep would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Well, you cant get .com etc for free they always cost few bucks, but there is good webhosts such as Freehostia where you get mysql, ftp access and other nice things without any banners free. There is also nice userpanel for you to use.

well i have surfed a lot of free hosting site and let me tell u most of them are bogs and lot of them are not reliable. but the most useful that i found also also reliable was ifatnet. it has a very good server up time and also it has a lto of optons to offer like forums, blogs etc. so i think it is better to go for a ifastnet hosting

I think the best ones are www.freewebs.com or www.bravenet.com -- having said that, if you wanted to be hosted by someone else, and get a sub-domain (great practice for getting your own domain one day) -- it's free, and, depending on your host/hostess, you'd be able to get quite a lot of help. Hosting is available from many different sites, but I recommend joining www.envy-creations.co.nr, as they have a few nice members who'll host you and help you learn FTP etc.

Oh, not heard of that before? How does that work? I've got a nice software program which does ftp uploads for me, all i need is a site that provides the ftp address and allows it! LOL! Have tried freewebs which is ok, though doesn't have ftp uploads, not heard of bravenet before - is it free and ftp capable? Thanks

Theres one that we used in my Web Design class. the only bad thing is that if you want your own domain name you have to buy it. The website is called www.50webs.com I think its really easy to use. and you can upload like 12 files at a time.

You can only get a domain by paying for it. I don't know of any sites you can use an FTP that are free. There is freewebs and geocities that I know of for sure. There is also Angelfire, Tripod, and probably others. You can do a yahoo search and you'll probably find a few free sites. I doubt any will allow you to use FTP programs though as they have there own uploading software. Good luck in this venture by the way. Hopefully this helped some.

Yes, it did help thanks. I tried geocities and the page builder thing drove me mad! Everytime i loaded the page the boxes and text etc moved all over the place! Tried free webs which looks good, but you have to manually upload each file. Will look into the others though, thanks
