When will your child go to primary school?

In the past most children would go to primary school when they were 7 years old. I was the same. Now it's different. Most children will go to primary school at the age of 6. So I think it's more likely that I will let my child go to school when he is 6.

Hello youless!
I think my child will go to school at the age of 5 as normally kids go at this age or even before for kindergarten classes. We will, however teach him ourselves at home. I think a child's upbringing is not the responsibility of school only, it's equally or perhaps more of our own responsibility too. So, he will be getting his basic lessons at home from his parents before he goes to school:-)

You are right. The education needs to be taught by parents and teachers. Sometimes I like to teach my son simple things, as I know he will know more from school. If he already learns a lot, I am afraid he will feel it's boring to stay in the school:)

In the UK children can go to nursery school when they are aged 3. They are encouraged to begin school when they are 4 and go into what is called a reception class. By law children must be in school by 5, when they go into year 1. Children in reception age 4 to 5 learn to count up to 10 and are introduced to the sounds of the alphabet. In year 1, age 5 to 6, they learn to count up to 20 or 30 depending on ability and they continue learning the sounds of the alphabet. In year 2 phonic work gets more challenging like learning patterns like 'ee' and 'ea' in words. The average child at age 7 expected to read, write in sentences and work with numbers too 100.
I have been to schools in Holland and 10 t0 11 year old can speak almost fluent English. Just because children in the UK begin school early does not make them better academically at age 11 than children in other counties that began school at 6 or 7. Some boys mature quite late and therefore do not enjoy the push to get them reading, writing and good with numbers. By age 7 most boys are ready to learn, but some are turned against learning before this. There is a big jump in the standards expected in year 2, from year 1. There is less of a jump in standard expected in year 1, from reception, but there is less playing.

Now my son can recognize some simple Chinese words, can speak A-Z and few English words. He counts from 1-100. He can sing a few children's songs. And that's his achievement now. He is 3 years old. I think when he goes to primary school at the age of 6, he may already learned something before.

I started going ot school when I was 5. My son started at age four because the school system added a Pre-Kindergarten course since most kids in our area do not go to preschool anymore.

My son will be starting school in September after he turns 5. I think if I hold him back a year he would get bored and not only that I think he is socially ready to spend time with other kids his own age. We will see how this year goes for him.
