Honestly, there's no comparison. Sharapova is everything Kournikova could have been and failed to be. She failed to become a single grand- slam winner. She failed to live up to the hype she created early on in her career. She failed to become a respected tennis player. The only thing they have in common is their beauty and the their profession. Sharapova blows A.K. away. Sharapova has won two grand slams at twenty. She seems to keep getting better and better, which is not to say she has looked fragile at times. And despite the commotion created about her, Sharapova is a cool athlete. If you ever listen to any of her post- match conferences, she's very down to earth and smart. I think Kournikova lacked the tact that Maria possesses. I think comparing Kournikova with Sharapova is unfair to Kournikova, because Kournikova doesn't stand a chance.

Wow, I can see you have a very extensive and radical opinion in comparing these two beautiful athletes. You must very avid fan of Maria Sharapova. I understand that.
Well. seeing the way in your point of view, I think they are still worth comparing. I only notice from the opinions I've gathered in your responses to this discussion is that perhaps they just went in two different paths choosing what career to pursue. Maria chose to pursue her athletic career while Anna went otherwise. They are both good athletes in their own right.

Anna had one good year at Wimbledon but never won a singles title. She did win several doubles slam titles when paired with Martina Hingis. She was much more distracted by the glamour side, but she was the first in a wave of Russian women players and in many ways can be pointed to as the reason for the many good Russian women players who followed, including Maria Sharapova. Anna by the way is till playing in the form of world team tennis. Maria is much more focused on the game than on the glamour side and is much more gifted physically, but she has been struggling this year.

Sorry Stealthy! Maria is taller, but is not more gifted physically. But you were right about Anna's Doubles success at Ladies and Mixed Doubles. She was an incredibly fit player, who ran all over the court. Maria has been just too one-dimensional. It was only last year when she began to vary her game that she started adding to her Gram Slam tally again.

well everyone can agree that sharapova is the better player kournikova didnt do anything when she played but if they played it wouldnt be whos better it would all be aobut who was hotter i wouldnt care what they score is i would be staring at other stuff on them

Maria has more physical tools as a tennis player: She is much taller, much quicker and faster, and much stronger. Anna was a very good player, but she wasn't big enough or strong enough to get in there and fight for a win. Maria has the size, plus the attitude. She goes after her opponent and wants to win. She never quits or stops trying to win. Yes, both are gorgeous, but Maria is more of an athlete and has been blessed with tremendous physical tools to work with.

Hi murrdog, thanks for that very objective response. Well, I found your opinion sounds very likely of the comments I saw on one entertainment talk show compairing the two saying to the tune of something like this: --"Maria is a pretty woman who really wants to play tennis, on the other hand, Anna is more on a tennis player who just wants to stay pretty woman".

One is a beauty with substance while the other is non.
One is sexier by not trying to be one whilst the other promote to be sexy to gain attention.

surely maria sharapova is a great tennis champion and anna kournikova in reality was not as good as sharapova as regards tennis..she was really considered because she is a beautiful girl but when she had the opportunity to do other she did on the contrary maria sharapova showed to be a great champion winning much titles and kournikova practically nothing!!
