How Long Do You Wait Before Marking Best Response?

I am a little embarrassed to say that I take too long to mark best response. I went through and did all of them tonight and found that some had been sitting for three months. But in my defense, there are some that are so on target that I mark them right after reading them. I have twenty three post with 0 responses, which sort of makes me sad, but I have learned from them and will move on. How long do you wait before marking your best responses?

Usually I take a while to mark best responses too. I don't want to be hasty and give one away that I'll later regret, and sometimes if I have a really successful topic it will take me a while to wade through all the responses anyway, depending on how much time I have to spend online. I usually just wait until I have a couple of pages of discussions waiting to be resolved and then go through them. It gives me a chance to look back on the topic and see what has changed in my own outlooks as well! I know there are probably people who get annoyed at me for not doing it sooner, but I only have so much time!

What I realized yesterday was that I had given best response to some people who had not been active for a while. That is what really made me realize that I need to do it more often.

Initially, when I started here..I used to mark 'best response' within two days of starting my discussion. However, later on I learnt that some of our dear friends take time to respon, due to one reason or another...so I should wait more. For me two weeks is the minimum time period for marking a best response and 2 months is probably the maximum period for waiting for the response, before selecting the best one.

I do not consider the number of responses, which I receive...rather I go with minimum period, for deciding the best response.

Well, rosie37....you are not the only one. I'm feeling guilty too. It's never been easy for me me sometimes to give best response to just one person. I wish I could give everybody best response mark or at least 3 in every discussion. Since most of them come up with good advice/ opinion, etc. Unfortunately we can only give one....so in order to give a fair chance...normally I wait long enough...

I will be perfectly honest with you. I have friends on Mylot that I can count on to post on almost all of my discussion. So rather than agonize, I just give it to a friend, as long as they have attempted to do a good response.

Good question!! Usually i wait for the first page to complete with the responses and that is 10 responses. And after that number of responses i go through all the responses and mark one of them as best response. In the event if i dont get the more than 10 responses to my discussion. I wait for some days say for a week and then mark the best response. So is i advice you to do for selecting best response. Best wishes ;-)

I am following what mylot has suggested about the right time to mark your best response. 'Do not select a best response right away, wait at LEAST A WEEK before choosing a best response. This will give myLot users plenty of time to respond to your discussion topic and will give you a variety of responses to choose from.' Here's the link from mylot's FAQs http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq8.aspx#16

Thank you so much for the link. I don't believe I have ever come across the frequently asked questioned or I don't remember some of them. In any case, I will go and read them now.

I have not time limit, but I do wait at least a few days. I have seen best response given after a few hours. I guess it all depends upon the person who is starting the discussion if they like what they see right a way or if one of their friends makes the post. Good luck with keeping up with best response

Yes, I am pretty emotional. So if I read a post that hits it right on target, I will mark it immediately. Sometimes there may be a better response, but it wont touch me as strongly as the one I have marked.

No that wasn't embarrassing to say. I don't wait actually but sometimes I have to. Whenever I like the answer, I will definitely mark it as the best response.

I usually wait a few weeks at least. When you post lots of topics, it is natural that at least a few will not get responses. It is no reflection on you.

Oh dear lol..I have about eight pages of back log lol to sort out.I try to sort out a few a day and I am not posting many discussions so I can catch up on the best responses lol I will try to finish them within the next few weeks and then leave it one week maximum per discussion to resolve. That way I will not build up such a back log and I can take care of all my discussions..I do rate every one and sort them out..no one is left like that..I like to mostly plus rate and then out best response when I finally get to resolve them. Thanks for the reminder lol.

I usually wait a day at the most. I don't usually get many posts but when I do I just judge it from the last response made. If its more than 12-15 hours then I go ahead and mark a best response.

Hi. Now this is an interesting post for me, as this post has reminded me to mark my best responses, which have been forgotten, I will go do this very shortly lol... I use to mark best response as soon as I got 5 replies to my posts, now I have been a little slack on this... Thanks for the reminder...

I tend to wait too long also and usually end up forgeting to mark a best respone period. I need to go mark mine now that you mention it. It's just that you never know when a really good response will come. I think I have a few discussions with no responses as well.

Before I wait for a week to select a best response but now I have not tracked my posts and just select when the number of unresolved discussions are already overwhelming.

I am really not sure how long I take to make responses! Good question? I try to wait until it has at least 10 responses but that is hard has some don't get any comments and other 2 or three. What should I do in a case like that? I feel 10 is a good number to wait for do you?
