Over the weekend I went to a health & harmony festival, I had a great time and had quite a few therapies including an Indian Head Massage, Kinesiology and a 'Gong Bash'. The latter involved lying down in a tent with this guy bashing gongs and using singing bowls all around us. The effect was quite amazing with the soothing harmonies going on around us, you could literally feel the vibrations going right through us. The sounds of the singing bowls were the best as they were beautifully harmonic and must admit this is the first time I had heard the 'real thing' instead of just on cds. A little further down there was a stall selling these beautiful instruments, so I just had to buy one, although it's a small bowl, the sound is just amazing and I just wondered who else here uses them and do you use them for meditation or other purposes. The photo attached is the one I brought.

I don't have one now, but I did many years ago. You are right, they are hauntingly beautiful and the tranquilizing effect is surreal. At one time I practiced Buddhism with a particular sect that chanted a lot and the bowl was used during the chanting. ~Donna

I'm so excited for you that I can't remember to tell you everything at once! Did yours come on a satin covered pillow? If it did, you know what it sounds like on that; now take it off the pillow and place it on a coffee table and strike it and feel the different vibrations. You can also enjoy the differences by using the wooden striker on the outside with sharp strikes or soft stokes. Then, you can take the striker and move it around in a circular motion inside the bowl. I would recommend the clockwise direction as that is where your positive energy is. Of course if negative/positive energy is not something that you deal with as part of your own particular spiritual practice then either direction would be fine - Just relax and enjoy. You don't have to worry about spirit, have fun and play until you and your bowl become one. ~Donna

Hi Donna, I had never heard one in 'real life' before so couldn't appreciate the vibrations they gave off, I shall definately be using it to aid meditation now.. I'm still in awe at the sound it gives off and all my family are amazed by it! Thanks for your response!

I've never owned one myself but I used to special order them for ppl when I had my business...They really do make a soothing, intensely deep hittingn sound without a doubt..I'd like to buy one at some point but right now its just not top priority for me...I think another thing (though this is a group thing) that gives the same effect is a drumming circle...I took the kids to a Pagan Pride festival a couple of yrs ago and there was an outdoor drumming circle that was SO mesmerizing it was incredible! That was actually when we discovered my daughter, should she choose to go that route, would be a very gifted and skilled spiritualist (for lack of a better term)...It hit something in her so intensely and quickly we had to leave the park within 20 mins or less..she wouldnt just leave the area we had to actually go home...It was wild to say the least...Keep in mind though, other things have happened over the past few yrs that also let us know she has that certain "something" in her ya know..

Exploring energy and their various resonances creates truly profound experiences that definitely raises the consciousness along with the vibrations. I always love to hear about other people's experiences and enjoyed your comments about the mesmerizing effects. I know that one well.

I agree, singing bowls make a wonderful sound. I don't actually own one yet, but funnily enough, I've been looking to buy one as one of the online metaphysical stores I use, at least, stocks them. Here again, they are only small ones... the big ones must cost the earth! But, you can still get some good sounds from them, and as you say, they are extremely useful in both meditation, and ritual. Brightest Blessings.

Hi Darkwing, yes they are quite wonderful and after the experience I had the other day I just had to buy one as I hadn't seen them anywhere else! They had some huge crystal ones there, which made the most amazing, almost earpiercing sound but didn't dare ask the price as even the small glass ones were about £90!! The larger brass ones come out at about £300 so I shall be keeping an eye on ebay lol! Thanks for responding and blessed be!

I've seen them in EBay but you're right, they're not cheap, my friend. Good luck with your search.

Hi Bizziebod, My Law of Attraction and intent to discover like minded others on Mylot is working again. Saw your response, loved the crystal ball, checked out your site, asked to be a friend and had to comment before signing off! Whew...that was a long one. Anyway about your discussion..yes, I have singing bowls and use them. I am an energy worker trained to teach Reiki and other healing arts and use my bowl during centering exercises within the group. They resonances are wonderful for 'space clearing' rooms when energies are congested. They can be used on someone to help align chakra systems. Somestimes when I feel un-grounded I will sit cross-legged and hold the bowl around the mid-body. I used the resonances in conjunction with deep rythmic breathing...ahhh I feel better just thinking about all the wonderful things they do. I also have a Tibetian Bell that works in a similar way...but maybe even stronger. When I first got it I called my gal-pal at work and chimed it into the phone and it blow our the lines..this is a no joke...absolutely true event. So I wouldn't suggest using them around electronic equipment...at least that was my experience. Hope the infor is what you were looking for. Enjoy! Cheers!

Thank you! I've added you as a friend and left a little message on your profile page! Thanks for your info, I've not actually seen the bells myself, and listening to them on CD in no way prepares you for their actual tone and reverberations in real life! How interesting about the phone line! When I was at this fair, one of the guys was using crystal ones and they were really large, the sound was earsplitting when he played them, it was so intense. He did say one shattered once while he played it, so it doesn't suprise me one bit that these items could do damage to some things! Thanks again for your tips and hope to speak soon!

Also I don't know if I mentioned when I contacted you the first time..but your Avatar is...enchanting! Look forward to hearing more of what you are doing with your Tibetian Bowl. I can just see you in your corner of the Universe...sending out all those delightful resonances...Ohmmmmm...ah...wonderful tonalities. Great fun sharing...we will keep in touch.
