Adults were Starring at Handicapped Child

I'm at my local supermarket doing my grocery shopping and I go down this one lane only to find several people gathered around a little girl in a wheelchair. The childs mother(?) has her back turned looking at some food items. These people are starring at this child. Her mother turns around and says,"what are you people looking at?" I'm really glad she did, because she saved me from doing it! Does this kind of behavior from adults not really p*ss you off? What would you have done?

That is a hard one. If it were childern I would have tried to explain to them that she is just like them and that they shouldn't stare it might make her feel bad. However these were adults who were so rude to begin with that even if you tried to explain anything to them it would be unlikely it would make any difference. I feel bad for that child though to watch all this happen.
