Chicken Breast

Chicken Breast Boneless Fillet - Is it still safe to eat?

I took a pkt of chicken breasts from our freezer and left it in the main fridge to defrost over night. I totally forgot about cooking it yesterday and then we were invited out to dinner by one of our neighbors, to a smorgasboard last night, so it has been sitting in our fridge for two days. I am wondering whether it is still safe to cook and eat?

i think you'll be fine. As long as it's still sealed. You didn't open it, right? Just make sure you cook it well and I think you'll be just fine.

Oh yes its safe to cook. But after the 3rd day I would be leery. Ive done that before and its always been just fine to cook. And you defrosted it in the refrigerator so thats always good. Enjoy eating your chicken.LOL

It is fine I had chicken in the fridge for 3 days before I cooked it. Just make sure you cook it untill its well done.I usually take my frozen chicken from the freezer and put it into the fridge for 2 to 3 days before I cook it.

Oh that's good to know. I always tend to defrost frozen goods in the fridge and then cook it the next day. I tend to forget now and then. I wonder if this is the same with minced meat or ground beed? would you risk cooking it two days later? thanks for responding!

Hot Dogs - Lost and Found
I think it would be safe as long as it was in the refrigerator and kept cold. I just had almost the same situation happen to me. I took out hot dogs to make for my granddaughter for dinner two nights ago. When I went to start cooking I couldn't find them! I had put them in a container in the refrigerator and covered it and for the life of me I couldn't find the container! Last night I found the container with the lid on it but I had left it in the pantry next to the sink!

Most times if I leave meats in the fridge for too long, I will simply throw it away. I know it's wasteful. But, better to throw out $5.00 in spoiled chicken than to serve it to the family and end up with a $1000 bill when everyone gets sick. True story! That happened to us when I was growing up. The entire family got sick from poorly cooked chicken and eggs. Better to be safe than sick, I always say. I'm sure you'll do what's best for your family. You sound like a very smart mom!

Thank you beautyqueen. I am always skeptical when it comes to chicken being left for a day or two (even though it was in the fridge in its original packaging), however I took the chance and cooked it up really good - it tasted fine and I was ok the days after. Thanks for responding :)

I think it can still be eaten, just make sure that it's properly cleaned and don't forget to put lots of herbs in it!;) If it smells already, don't think twice to thrash it. Chicken when not properly cooked contains salmonella, a virus commonly found on fowls/poultry products.

as long as it still smeels like chicken you can still cook it. but just a little reminder chicken has salmonella so if you cook this chicken you left there at the fridge and not at the freezer then you have to cook it very well.

I am sure they are still good, as long as you kept them cold, they should be okay. Most of the time, you can smell chicken and see if it is going bad, but yours should be fine.

If it smells ok it is all right, maddysmommy. I always judge meats this way. The nose always knows, lol.

i would still cook and eat it. it only gets bad when you defrost and refrost i think. i think chicken meat can be kept in the main refridgerator for up to 3 days if they weren't frozen in the first place! the smorgasboard sounds interesting! wish someone would invite me to one!

It probably wasn't thawed until the second day and as long as it wasn't on the counter for that time it's fine. When in doubt I always smell the meat. If it gives off a bad smell then I tend not to fix it. Though if it is just starting to turn and you have nothing else in the house to eat, I've been there, you can just make sure to cook it completely to kill any germs and it should be fine too. But if it is slimy, turning colors and smelling bad you should toss it.

Yeah I was thinking that too. It doesn't smell bad at all so I boiled it really good and added veges and teriyaki sauce. Tasted nice though. thanks for responding ladysavant!
