Barnyard the Movie

In the Barnyard movie, there is a little hairy thing that has two appearences on camera. The first one is during the fight at the end, the thing gets let loose from a box. The second is right at the end when it's hidden himself in the lady's hair and scares the crap out of her. My question for all of you is: What the heck is the hairy thing?
