Things May Not Always Be As They Seem...

A recent, tragic incident in our community has reminded me of the saying: sometimes things may not always be as they seem.
The people that you interact with on a daily basis may be hiding something dark and secret that you may not be aware of. For all intents and purposes, they may seem content on the outside but are tangled and twisted on the inside.
So the lesson I've taken away from this is: be nice to the people you encounter everyday for you never know what may be lurking under the surface.

I remember telling a coworker to put a smile on her face whenever she greeted customers. There were more than a few customers who were greeted by her with her sourface and poor attitude. The dark expression that came over them was a bit frightening. I would quickly jump up to assist that person and bring out the sunshine again. A couple of them commented on how biachy my coworker was and didn't want to deal with her again.

I have to concur with Biwasaki's view that rudeness or being moody could be a sign that someone is deeply unhappy inside. When someone is unhappy, they don't care about other people's feelings. People may perceived them as being selfish, but they are just being themselves.

You are right. To some extent, we all are hiding something under the surface and care not always to let everyone know who we really are.
I know I often walk around in a mask with people not knowing how I really feel.
And honestly, I prefer it that way. I do not care to reveal all.
But trust me, I don't have any homicidal tendencies. :)
And as for being careful of what is lurking under the surface in other people.
This is why I prefer to stay away from people. I have been hurt too many times by those that I care not to reveal.

I always try to keep this in mind. I'm almost always kind to people though.
Bullies and people who are rude and nasty to others need to have this instilled in their heads. I think it's so horrible when you hear how people killed themselves after being bullied or harassed.
