I'm curious to know, since we have SO MANY decent, devoted Christians in here..What in YOUR opinion is an example of a "TRUE" Christian? What are the key qualities IYO a TRUE Christian would have in order for you to see them as such? now granted I'm not a Christian anymore and havent been for a very long time HOWEVER I was for a long time yrs ago and very devoted and I have to say that from what I learned while on that path and from reading my bible, talkin to my pastor etc etc AND from talking to numerous Christians in the yrs since then....a TRUE Christian is one with an open heart, one with understanding to the world around them, one with compassion and kindness in their souls ALL WHILE still being strong and devoted to their bible, their lord and their religion.....A TRUE Christian to me is one who DOESNT spit rude words, one who DOESN'T try to provoke the anger in others by being heartless or by trying to instigate etc..one who DOESN'T think of only themselves when dealing with touchy subjects.....A TRUE Christian IMO is one who is capable of at least HEARING the side of a non Christian and accepting that without worrying about their kind acceptance possibly being mistaken for weakness..A TRUE Christian is able to think for themselves and still know they are NOT betraying their god by using their brains etc... I think there are other things as well that IMO show what a true Christian is...but what do you all think? What IYO defines a TRUE Christian?

A true Christian is one who has given his/her life to Jesus Christ. They put Him first in their life. They admit they are sinners and they ask for Christ's forgiveness. They no longer live a life of sin. Does a Christian stop sinning completely? No. But, they desire to live for the Lord and do that which pleases Him. A true Christian is open to Godly things. They hate what is evil and what is against what the Lord teaches. They are loving, compassionate, giving, think more of others than themselves, humble, full of joy and peace, hurt when others hurt, be happy for others who are happy, love the sinner but hate the sin, love Truth and not false things, forgiving. Basically, when you give your life to Jesus Christ, you are a new person. You have a new life. You have been born again. You no longer belong to this world, but belong to Christ. You read His Word, the Bible and meditate on it. You pray without ceasing and listen to God and seek His will for your life. You want to honor God and obey Him. I love what Dr Charles Stanley says, "Obey God and leave all the consequences to Him." This is so true! If we will just surrender everything to the Lord, He will take care of it! We need to remember that we are not in control...God is. When we try to do things on our own, without God, things will turn out horrible in the end. If we allow God to take control, things will be fine in the end. This does not mean He will make things easy for us. Sometimes He will make us work for things. But we just need to trust in Him for everything. I could go on and on about the Lord Jesus! I love talking about Him and His awesome love for us. Just Sunday at church, I was taking Communion and as I was doing this, I was thinking about what Jesus went thru for me on that horrible day. He was beaten, mocked, tortured, spat upon, humiliated, nailed to an old rugged cross....all for me! As I was thinking about this, tears came to my eyes. How wonderful the Lord Jesus is! How totally awesome His love is for me and for you! What did we do to deserve this from Him? Nothing. We deserve to die and to perish because of our sins, but Jesus, Who was completely without sin, loved us so much that He was willing to go thru all that in our place so that we may be free from sin! I can't comprehend all that! It is just too awesome and wonderful! I pray that you all will come to know this awesome and wonderful Lord and Savior Who loves you beyond measure! God bless!

Hi Zuke, It is wrong to hate other people, but we should hate what is evil. God hates sin because it separates us from Him and it hurts us. He loves us, the sinners.

Jesus hated sin because it separates us from Him. There are a few places in the Bible that speaks of God hating certain things...evil things that people were doing. He did not hate them, but what they were doing. He hates things that hurt us because He loves us more than we can ever imagine. He is holy and just and He could never love something that is evil.

I have to agree with you and say your description of a true Christian if very pleasant but I don't use the term. I HATE that phrase "true Christian". I mean what, you have to get your membership card stamped my Jesus before you are consider a real believer? Who the heck gets to make the call whether or not you are true? To me it's nothing more than a degrading term, Christians not only use against those that question their beliefs but also to degrade their fellow Christians with to make them superior. I avoid that term with a passion and to tell the truth the ones that use it, I have wonder if they would have called Jesus that all those years ago when he preached against the church? HMMMMM????

You know the more I think about it, that saying kind of reminds me of the rich and how they seperate ranks, cause it's not you're just rich, it's either you are "New Money" or your are "Old Money"... either one is a "True Christian" or their not. Really shallow when you think about it. Until I see their membership card personaly stamped by Jesus, I think I won't be judging who is real or not. LOL.

A true Christian is a person who follows the teachings of Christ. Christ loved everyone and judged no one. He taught us all to love and to take care of one another. He was a rebel and a non conformist. He was a radical and didn't follow the rules. A true christian follows the namesake, not the bible.

you said that you are "not a Christian anymore" so why are you questioning what a Christian should be. from what you describe or dictate Christian should be, why did you leave Christ? shouldn't you be describing whatever religion or no-religion you are practicing now, is good at? i think you should come back to Christ, and live by example else your words are nothing.

Well as I've said elsewhere, this topic was brought on by another thread actually...nothing more nothing less...I'm NOT questioning what a Christian "should be" I'm curious as to what others think on the topic.

To understand what it really means to be a Christian we must see and understand who Christ is, now, I don't mean what we're told by Priests, Parents, teachers et al. but who He really is. Since the word Christian means Christ-like. I have always wondered why those who Jesus loved while he walked on earth are the same ones who are no where near the church, something doesn't add up.

Ravenlady, I suppose that I could define a True Christian in my own words; but to me that would not be a correct definition - it would be the definition of one woman. I would choose not to define anyone by the path they follow. I don't want to be known only by one aspect of my life. I am a full creature of the Universe and want full recognition. I am a Woman; but much more than that. I am a Mother; but much more than that. I am a Friend; but much more than that. I know that you can see where I am going with this. Our spirituality is but one portion of the people we are. If we are guided by that spirituality we are blessed indeed, but if not, hopefully it will awaken within us at some point during our lives so we can experience the fullness of the person we truly are. Blessed Be ~Donna

"I would choose not to define anyone by the path they follow" Oh nor do I..because we certainly ARE more than the religion we follow.....I'm not asking ppl to define an entire person by any means....I was just curious what others think would qualify as someone being a true Christian...Let me give you an example...I have been told by certain ppl: "You were never a true Christian" and I find that an interesting statement to make considering ppl who do say such things are behaving very UNChristianly IMO...so I figured I would start a thread simply out of curiousity of what others think.. I do understand what you are saying though about how we are far more than our personal spiritual paths and I agree completely...we certainly are (well most of us but then you have some who are...well thats a thread all in itself LOL)
