Lifts/Elevators - Do you wait?

I haven't posted for ages due to work commitments and lack of topic material. But I am starting to get a complex and want to make sure it is not just me or if it is people in general. In my building to get to work we have to walk dow a corridor to get to the lifts.. The lift is the only destination in the corridor so if you are following someone down the corridor and they get to the lift before you and it opens, do you think someone should hold the lift for you(you're not even 10 seconds behind them), or would you press your level and let the door close in their face?? I tend to wait and press the hold door open button. There are 2 lifts but I know how slow they can be so I think it is just good manners to wait a few seconds for the other person. I don't believe in yelling out "Hold the lift" if they can't hear or see me in the reflective mirror, they must be blind & deaf ( I know we don't have either in my building)... lol Thanks, I'm felling better for my whinge now. Thanks in advance to anyone wanting to respond.

If I have to go for 2 floors up, then I do not wait for lifts or elevators. I love to climb. But if the number of floors are more, I rather wait and go. It is better to climb the steps everyday.

In India, particularly in Bangalore most part of the year, lifts do not work due to shortage in electric power supply. So they allow people go up in lift and they put placards saying you should use stairs to come down.

I must admit I am a polite elevator user but it is probably because I don't use them very often. I like to hold for someone that is coming and squash in tighter for one more! Hope your elevator sagas turn out better in the future....

I would wait for you if I knew you were on your way, unless you had a tendency to 'drop one' or had a bad smell or something along those lines. If you are the average person who works there, then why not wait a minute even. It is much nicer to wait than not, plus you can always say that you had to wait for the lift. The real question is why you are getting the lift instead of getting healthy by taking the stairs lol.

I use to be able to walk via the carpark and avoid the lift, but with construction work happening, they closed that options..:( It would not be the first time I have tried to walk the stairs and either the internal lights didn't work, or you were having to walk over sleeping/drunk ect bodies... hence I have taken to taking the lift now... Maybe it is time for me to fine a job in a better part of town... lol

i think that is a very well mannered person like you. i do the same when i'enter any lift and on turning i see someone coming press the hold on button until no one is on sight. it very good to do to others what you'd like them to do to you.
