I have had my dog and cat vaccinated (or whatever) for fleas and yicks in previous years useing the products available from the vet, listed under the names Advantage and Revolution. They have done thier job nd worked well without complications but they are very costly, especially in comparison to the products avaiable in pet stores and stores like Walmart claiming to do a similar job. Has anyone had any luck with any of these pet store varieties of flea and tick control? I am referring to the product that gets out on the animal in a drop on the back of thier neck once a month and is supposed to kill and ticks or fleas that get on them. I once heard a story about a cat having an allergic reaction to Hartz brand flea and tick drops and so I am afriad to use them on my animals, but I also don't want to grossly overpay at the vet if I could be buying the same product in a store much cheaper. We are mvoing in 17 days to a house in the woods and I need to have both of them protected by the time we move. They already have a few fleas from my dog going for walks and picking them up from the grass and bringing them home, then they get on the cat too (he's not allowed outside). Anyone who has used any of the pet store products please let me know what your experiences were with them. Also if there is anyone out there who knows any tricks to get the fleas that they have now to stop biting them please tell me. I have already sprinkled garlic powder on my dogs food (I heard fleas hate garlic) but I want to do as much as I can for them immediatly, because whatever treatment I get will take a while to work.

I am using the old fashioned flea and tick collars again, they are about 6 dollars where I live and last a whole season. I have good success with them. I asked the vet what to do if I get a flea and she said put a collar around your foot. ;-) A warning about garlic. It is poisonous for dogs. Garlic and onions are poisonous for dogs!

Holy crap, I knew about the onions but I thought garlic was okay. I ran out and dumped her dish full of food in the garbage and put her dish in the sink to soak as soon as I read your post. You know there are alot of recipes on the internet and available other places for dog cookies that inclue garlic as an ingredient and clain it has flea busting properties, but I looked it up and you are right it is bad for dogs, I wonder if the companies making these recipes and cookies are aware of that?
