Last time you bit your fingernails?

Well, it's been one month since I last bit my nails. For some reason, I'm giving the credit to My Lot. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my fingers are always so busy typing that I don't have time to bite my nails anymore. My nails still chip on occasion if I use them as tools or don't wear gloves for housework. But, so far, no nail biting! Maybe I've finally beat my nail biting compulsion for good. Let's hope. What about you? How long has it been since you last bit a fingernail? What's the longest time you've ever gone without biting your nails?

I bite my nails all the time, unfortunatly. My dads the same, so I guess I got it from him! When I work I bite them a lot less, I just seem to forget about it because I'm so busy.

I used to bite my fingernails all the time when I was young. My parents tried everything, from putting bitter tasting stuff on my fingers to putting socks on my hands overnight. Nothing seemed to help. I always had my nails chewed off as short as they could go. I don't remember when I quit. I think it was when I was about 4 years old, or maybe when I started school. I'm glad you found something productive, like myLot, to do instead. Good luck with that.

Thankyou! I think My Lot simply gives me a place to focus my nervous energy. And, I love talking, so I get to do that a lot here too. What could be better?

Yes, and you can't bite your fingernails while you are typing on a keyboard, right? If you notice you are chewing on your fingernails while they are on the keyboard, then you really have a problem. lol.

Try the tip that KatesMama suggested on the other page, or maybe a good multi-vitamin that has Vitamin B in it. It will help with nervous compulsions. Often the body is missing essential vitamins and minerals needed for a calm and balanced nervous system and this manifests itself through nail biting or other minor compulsions. Best of luck kicking the habit.

I quit like ten years ago, when I got cats, cause I was afraid of picking up some weird illness from them. But, then started back when my personal life got complicated. Maybe this time I'll stick with the no-nail biting policy.

I had my nails growing really nicely until last night. Last night one of my nails chipped and so I hate to clip it off. But then I kept messing with it and the next thing I knew I was biting my nails again. Argh!! I think it was also because I was sitting still for so long last night and that's one of my boredum compulsions. Maybe I should just stay on Mylot and keep my hands busy typing like you. I'm glad you found something that works for you. Hope you can keep it up!

I use to bite my nails when I was a kid but that stopped at about the age of 14 and have never bitten my finger nails since. However, i choose to mostly keep my nails short due to housework and filing at the office that always somehow has a way of reuning my nails. So I very rarely end up growing them. I do not do the false nail thing either... so my hands do not look pretty at all.

Yip I tried it once as well and they irritated me so much that I ended up pulling them off? yes but they do have a way of making you feel "grown up"! I feel the same way. Good luck!

I wore false fingernails one time, and felt so grown up. I think I was 23 or 24 years old. I had always thought of myself as a baby, until then. I felt so sophisticated. I don't dare wear them now, cause of my little girl. She loves hugs and I'm afraid she might get scratched on a fake nail.

Actually, I've never bitten my nails. Even as a child I was never tempted to do that. My sister however, DID bite her fingernails, although when she got into her twenties the habit seemed to taper off.

Once you hear about all the germs growing in under your nails it is easy to stop biting them. I think I was 12 when someone said do you like eating bugs? I was really grossed out and stopped immediately!

haha - I bit my nails last night for the first time in FOREVER! I used to bite my nails all the time growing up but eventually grew out of it I guess. Last night however my thumb nail chipped on the side and was frustrating so I started biting. Ahh well - I haven't been going after the other nails so I don't think it restarted the old habit ;)
