uploading pics

everytime i try to upload a pic, it doesn't work. What am i doing wrong? What are the guidlines for the type of pics i can upload? I know i can't upload pornographic photo's that's not what i'm trying to do. I look for images on yahoo that pertain to what i'm blogging about, but when i go to upload it, it always gives me an error but with no explanation. Pleas help if you can, thank you!
