Some people have a fear of clowns(coulrophobia). The fear is so bad in some people that it will send them running for the exits. The fear can be so bad that it can actually effect the daily life of some people.Maybe this fear is because it is impossible to guage the "clowns" true emotions, because of the painted up face. You don't know whether to stay for the show or run for your life! Good thing the Jerry Lewis movie "The Day The Clowns Cried" was never released or we would have all been in straitjackets! I, for one fear them, but it isn't an immense fear. What about you? Do you fear clowns? Please comment~

I do find clowns very creepy, and I keep my distance if I see them lol. But I really don't have a fear of them, if won't came up to me I wouldn't hit them and run or anything! =P lol. Just kind of think they ar weird, I guess :) Things that I have a big fear of our Zombies and Ghosts. I absolutly can not watch Zombie movies anymore and if I watch a ghost movie I close my eyes and plug me ears lot! lol. I also don't like Vampires, but their movies don't scare me as much as zombies and ghosts.

I do not but my daughter is deathly afraid of them as we were at a birthday party for my niece when she was 5 and she litterly screamed at the top of her lungs when she saw the clown and ran for the car got in and locked all of the doors. She would not let anyone in until the clown left and was out of site. She is now 23 and is still freaked out when she sees them. My grandson doesn't seem to mind them at all as he has seen them in the parades and has waved to them. I was thinking about having a clown at his 3rd birthday party as his mom is over seas in Iraq and will not be attending. hugs

I don't exactly fear clowns but they make me feel very uncomfortable. Usually I don't find them funny either. What I really fear is women in black islamic dress that covers them from head to toe and only the eyes are showing. I don't know why, none has ever hurt me but when I see one it sends shivers down my back and I have to cross over to the other side of the street.

It seems that you have a very intense fear of them. Lots of people do. My advice: Definently stay away from the clowns!

My best friend is so afraid, she can't even go in Mcdonalds because of Ronald McDonald. I always have to go in for her. She doesn't half love her Big Macs.

i think that clowns are more scary then making you happy. i can see how people and kids become afraid of them. their crazy make-up, their scary laughs....who know if they are going to pull a balloon out of their pocket or a knife.....i think the horror films regarding clowns have made me feel this way

I don't have a fear of clowns but I have heard that some people do have that fear. I have a girlfriend who has a fear of dolls. I make and sell doll clothes on eBay and she can't come into my one bedroom because I have a closet with a bunch of dolls in it. I thought that was weird.

I personally do not fear clowns but my aunty does. It's funny to watch. I shouldn't laugh though I know some people have a serious fear of them. I understand though, because I have a fear of dolls. Especially ones that talk. I just imagine them coming out with something like "I have a knife....I like blood!" Yeah dolls freak me out a bit. I think maybe it's because of the Chucky movies...

I don't fear them, but I have to say that they creep me out a bit. My daughter, on the other hand, doesn't like them at all. She doesn't even want to see a picture of them, let alone be close to one. I worked in a hospital for two years in th family resource center, although I don't care for them, I don't hate them, but the head librarian in charge was very afraid of them. Because we worked on the children's floor, we often had clowns dressed as doctors walk around. They would come into the resource center to check their e-mail and they were very imposing because they were both very tall. I often wondered if the children weren't more scaref of them, but they seem to be feared more by the adults than anyone else.

So, did the head librarian get the day off whenever the clowns were around? LOL

No, I really have never had any real feelings about clowns...fear, happy, nothing really. The first time I figured out that there were people who are actually afraid of clowns is when I watched a Seinfeld episode and Kramer was afraid of clowns. Man ... I loved that show. :) cheers,

I don't have a fear of clowns. But I never really understood why people are so afraid of them. I always saw/see clowns as people wearing alot of make up.

That is the way we should look at it, but a lot of us don't. I know of a rapper, P. Diddy, who has a clause in his contract,"no clowns". I'm sure theres probably a lot more entertainers, actors and actresses out there who are also afraid of them.

I didn't know anyone could be afraid of clowns let alone it having a special name for it, clowns just remind me of a cartoon character but I guess when you see some of the movies that have been made with crazy clowns I guess some people could have grown up with a problem. I guess people could have a problem with anything really, maybe something in their childhoos perhaps that starts them off....

Hi Sharon. Well I don't fear them as such, but I must admit I don't like them very much. My Mother was scared of them though - although in those days we didn't know there was a special word for her phobia. I just find them a bit "creept" - like something out of a horror film! You now - where the harmless childs' clown really turns out to the the serial killer or whatever!? Interesting topic - thanks.

I'm afraid of clowns. When I was younger, my fear was terrible, I hated going to circuses and what not because clowns were around. I just made sure to keep them far away from me and would go in other directions to keep my distance. However, I never ran from them, and what not. I can watch clowns on tv and everything, even though they freak me out a little bit. I don't have to turn the tv or something unless the clowns are being evil. It's pretty big, but it's not so horrible that it ruins my way of life.

I'm pretty much the same way. Although I really don't like them no matter how they look,it's the fact that I don't know what their true feelings are.

i suffer from many kinds of phobia and that coulrophobia is one of them, when i was in school i did a reasrech about phobias and few thing that i learned is that phobia can be masked with feelings like sadness, happyness and anger. so anytime you feel sad when you see a clown your coulrophobia starting to work and other thing i have learned that phobias can be transform to people by reading about it and usualy by other people. so when i did that resarch work and i saw all the list of phobias i thoght to my self ummm yea i really dont like blood so maybe im hematophob...

I'm not sure if this is a phobia that one could get over. I hope the fear your mom has of clowns is not as intense as it was when she was a child.
