"SPECIES" and not "SPECIE"!--(singular or plural)

My son corrected or told to us that don't use specie but instead species, since there is no such word i think in animals, or biology such as 'specie' and always species, and specie he said is for money, so don't use specie but instead use the word 'species' singular or plural..thanks, just free to give comments, violent reactions and clarifications, i will be very glad, !!^^")

species pertain to a particular kind of animal or plant, or any living thing, while specie pertains to a specific kind of coin, that's all, thanks, !!^^

Your son is correct. However specie is not just money but coin money as opposed to paper money. If species was plural it's singular would not be specie, but specy. Please note that the singular of all plurals ending 'ies' will end with 'y'. Check it out.

i don't think so abroji, i tend to disagree with that, lol^^, i have searched it in the dictionary but i cannot find the word 'specy' maybe we just have different dictionary, try to look it up, i am using an unabridged dictionary, i just don't know, it is there that species - is singular and plural, try to check it, thanks!!^^

No rockingmom I didn't argue that singular of species is specy, it is species only. I was just pointing out the spelling logic. I just wanted to show that singular of any plural ending 'ies' will end with 'y'. A few examples penny - pennies, berry - berries etc. But species is both singular and plural.

see... this is why I find different language funny. If you say "specie" in my language it is correct, singular or plural is always "specie" and it's wrong if you say "speci" as plural instead in English it's correct "species" as singular or plural but "specie" isn't singular. you know you can say to your kid "but I said "specie" in italian" ^_^ I'm being ironic of course ;)
