What do you think should be the plans for GM John Ferguson for this year and next...i believe he should get rid of Kubina and add some more depth to the forward lines

First thing they have to do is dump Ferguson. The guy has absolutely murdered the team over the last few years. I would argue they should go into a full rebuild Trade away a couple of those unwieldy contracts, Kubina is a good start, add the incredibly over-rated McCabe to the list. Trade the two second string goalies for a bag of pucks and chase down a free agent, goalie is simply too important a position to go with average talent. Darcy Tucker reminds me too much of Wendel Clark but he would be excellent trade bait. Last year I would have said, get Sundin a winger. Now I think that would be a waste. Let's start a real rebuild. Go for draft picks instead of tired old guys in the twilight of their career. If we are going to miss the playoffs lets have a decent reason for it. Young and inexperienced is better than old and disinterested. I would keep Sundin because he has been a class act for the Leaf for years and deserves to retire as a Leaf. (Don't want to lose him like we did Keon). Now, if they shoot for the playoffs, put Maurice on a short leash. He has been badly outcoached several times (someone explain how useful a timeout can be to him, willya) and was really the guy who cost them the playoffs last year. I guess the real bottom line is to pick a direction and stop waffling between rebuild and trying to contend. The current Leafs have no hope of a cup. They don't have much cap room. They cannot afford to fill all their gaps. rebuild now. They should have started 2 years ago. Miles Leaf fan since 1967, their last cup, and bloody annoyed about it.
