I would talk to a credit counseling service to help get out of debt. I think many of them don't even show up as being negative on your credit report and it saved me thousands literally. I am in my 2nd year of paying my 3 year commitment and it has helped a ton. Here is the company I use: http://tinyurl.com/3ex2f8 I am almost at 500 posts and can't wait to be able to copy and paste things like this. Good luck!

Please be very careful with debt consilidation (sp?) companies. One of my best friends works for a lawyer doing collections, who does collections for many companies she tells me that a lot of companies out of policy do not work with debt colsilidation companies. She also warned me that many of those debt colislidation (wow... I need to go to bed, I can't spell at this point!) companies cheat you, for instance they ask you how much you can afford to settle a certain debt, in turn they say to that company so and so only has x amount to pay for this debt when really u had y amount and they keep the difference. I worked very briefly for a medical billing collection agency that did something very similar to that and were not only screwing the patients but the hospitals as well. I was going to go through with a debt company like that until she told me that they were exactly the same. However, I know that there are some credit counseling services that do work as just that, counseling (and some are free) and don't act and debt consolidators. Just be sure to research any company that you find first. Hope that helps.

There is a great book for you to read on how to get rid of debt. It's called The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. It's a great book with really helpful advice.

I think it is pretty to be totally debit free. My husband and I are pretty debt free. Pretty much the only big thing we still have is the mortgage on our house. We don't have any big credit card bills or anything like. I feel lucky to be in this position.
