Did you ever go to a drive in restaurant?

When I was a kid, we used to go to the A & W drive in once in a while on Sunday afternoon after going to the lake. What I liked the best was the root beer floats in the frozen glasses. It was such a great treat! Those freezing cold glasses made it especially good.
So, do you have any memories of drive in restaurants? Please, keep them rated "G."

When I was a kid my family and I would visit A & W almost every weekend. It was so awesome, and they had the best food. Now, there is a similar restaurant not too far away from us called Sonic Burger, and it operates along the same lines as A & W. I haven't been there yet, but a few of my friends tell me it's pretty good.

We used to go to a drive-in restaurant once-in-a-while when I was growing up as a special treat. It was called Y-Knot drive in. I thought the name was clever. We always had burgers and fries, but it was such a treat. This was back in the days when people didn't eat out much, especially those who lived on a farm like we did. Driving 20 minutes to town was a big deal then. Can you tell I'm pretty old? lol. Now we don't go to drive-in restaurants much. In the summer it is too hot and the bugs come in the window. In the winter it is to cold. We prefer to dine in.

I remember going to the Dixie Drive-in when I was a kid. By then, it had been in business for many years. My dad told me the carhops used to serve you while on roller skates. When we went when I was a kid, you talked into a contraption like you'd see at a drive-in movie. After a while, someone would come out with your food. The only thing I remember is the vanilla milkshakes. It didn't make sense to me why we were eating in a car, especially since my dad was so particular about keeping his car clean.
