I have an ex-brother-in-law who went to AA and he swears it helped him. At first he didn't really want to quit, just went to the meetings to passify his wife but once he was there he said it really gave him a desire to quit seeing through other people's eyes and life what drinking was doing to his life and family. He's been 20 years not a drink - he'll tell you every single day is work but it's good work and he's glad to do it.

I've been nearly 5 years without as much as a sip of alcohl and don't miss it one single bit - drinking problems run in my family and it isn't always easy when around family who do drink but I'm much better off without.

If somebody has the desire to stop drinking AA is a wonderful place to start. Not only start but continue for as long as the person wants to stop drinking. AA opens their arms and hearts to everyone, and it's a place where people really relate to each other. I'm all for the program, and thankful it's out there.
