Driving: Do you know how to drive a standard/manual transmission? / myLot

Here in Canada, most people I know that are my age have only ever attempted to drive a standard transmission a few times, their vehicles are automatic transmission, so they never really had to learn. I'm just learning how to on my boyfriend's Mini Cooper, and I'm not terrible at it, but am still kind of unsure. What about you?

yes. i can drive in manual transmission. it was hard to learn at first, because there is the timing with the clutch, etc.. but i got to learn it. but i would always prefer the automatic.. lol.. =D

I learned on an automatic, but soon afterwards I bought pickup with a standard transmission and had someone teach me how to drive it. All of my children who are old enough to drive have learned how to drive a standard, and my two younger boys are learning now. I won't have any of my children not knowing how. They are free to choose which type they prefer, but I want them to at least know how.

I can drive a stick shift aka manuel transmission but I prefer the automatic, it's much easier to drive.

I got my driving licence on a stick shift. Then I bought an automatic but my husband still likes the stick shift and I drive his car sometime but find it annoying to shift gears etc.

learned to drive both standard and auto adn made sure my sons could too.
