Dont get me wrong, I like fireworks as much as the next guy. I just dont understand why a city counsel would bother making laws that they know the police cant posibly expect to enforce. For the last few years fireworks have been illegal in our city yet I can make a ten minute drive to the indian reservation and buy as many as I want and I did buy some. I mean it sounds like your in the middle of a war zone and the police are supposed to fine everyone in the city. It seems stupid to me to even bother with laws like this. Okay, rant over. Thanks, Terry

yes I can do the same thing go to the res. and buy them but why should I when the neighbors alrady have them I just set in my yard to watch. It is a stupid law and they need to get rid of it. The police have more things to do then give tickets to these people and someof the people will probably be the senotors and family and even the policemans familys .

Hi Lakota, I think the police get their fireworks from confiscating them from others anyway. I agree, The police have so many laws to worry about now that they could stop anybody and find some reason to ticket them. Now they even get to watch for smokers too. lol. Thank you for your response.

I suppose they are trying to prevent fire hazards. Where I live anyone can buy fireworks and we haven't really had any problems, but I guess in a larger city it can lead to injury too easily or it can start a large fire that your city doesn't have the capability or equipement to easily put out.

Well, fireworks can and do hurt people when their careless with them and they can start fires but my point is that the police cant enforce such a law. Its pointless to make a law when just about everyone in town is breaking it. I understand that they're trying to save people, if they really want to save people, maybe they'll make the streets safer to drive on (oh, scratch that, that cost money). Thank you for your response.

In this town there were over 450 murders last year and this year there are already 100 more deaths, mainly by gunfire... private fireworks around here are also mixed with gunfire and I'm not talking about just popguns... it's high caliber handguns and automatic weopons being discharged- with no regard for where those bullets may land. These incidents start the day before a holiday like July 4th, and continue through the weekend... that's why I'm absolutely cautious about my movements in certain areas (The whole town) and prefer going away, miles away... and staying put until the holiday "fun" is over. It's not unusual to hear about people dying from someone's celebratory gunfire... it's so common that you don't even have to waste the 50 cents it takes to buy a newspaper and read about it... http://www.abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=local&id=4878395 Banning private fireworks is one of those "nice" things that governments do from time to time, just to earn a little more political "capital" perhaps, and it's effective in towns where you'll find law abiding folks who believe in this stuff as "good for you and me" but on the other hand... In a place where it's raining bullets, as well as those pretty cascades of colors from a backyard Roman candle... it' disgustingly laughable... and I am doing my best to gather my resources and move.

Gee, I dont know what to say, I didnt know that it was that bad anywhere in the U.S. I would want to move too. Personally, I think its laughable to make a law forbiding fireworks anywhere, especially when you can buy them just down the street. I hope you can move out soon. Thanks, Terry

They allways remind to the civil people during the big hollidays that the fireworks are illegal, but the trade and the abuse with them will never stop.SO the low here is just something on paper, nobody takes it seriously.

Thats exactly it, nobody takes it seriously. I'm not sure theres even a reason to make a law. We've had a law here for quite a while, just this year they raised the fine to $250.00. Yet all the police can really do is drive by and warn people. Thanks, Terry

LOL- I hear you- It’s illegal here too- and we drive to Pennsylvania and buy them- Man PA is known for fireworks and adult stores- We don’t let off fireworks at our place but we go to several places that do- and what about all the city or town fireworks- put on by the city and town- Does your city do this?

Yes, our city has several fireworks displays. We always go to my wifes oldest sons house. He lives right outside the city limits so its legal there. Thanks, Terry

I was thinking the same thing last night as our neighbors were setting off fireworks that obviously weren't bought here in California. It's legal to set them off here in my town, but it has to be certain kinds. Those guys were setting off bottle rockets, m-80s, and all sorts of other illegal ones. I even called the cops a couple of times because the old houses across the street are so dry with lots of dry grass around them that I was picturing the neighborhood going up in flames. The second call successfully put a stop to all of the shenanigans finally.

Hi Katlady, Well, my point was that they cant possibly expect the police to be able to enforce such a law when everybody in town is blowing off fireworks. Where I live, all fireworks are illegal but that didnt seem to stop anybody. The whole city sounded like a war zone. Thank you for your response, Terry

Hi Gabs, I think the majority of people are reasonably safe with fireworks, but theres always the idiots that try to go for a bigger bang and end up hurting themselves in the process. Thanks, Terry

Laws are made by the people who do not enforce it. Hence, there are way too many laws which may not be practical or not at all followed by the public. But, if you have a deeper look into them, the laws are for the greater good of the society. What is missing is the implementation part, and it will take more than just the social will of the agencies involved to do it.

I understand what they are trying to do. Heck, on some level I even agree with it. When everyone grew up lighting fireworks and enjoying the forth of july, They cant just tell people that they cant do it anymore just because of a few careless people. I agree with the fact that there are to many laws, I think the police are to busy busting smokers to watch traffic any more. Thank you for your response.

LOL - I've wondered the same thing. Illegal here too but less than an hour drive to the state line where the streets are lined with stands selling what's illegal in Michigan :( And I've never heard of anyone being fined, arrested or anything for setting them off. Then turn around and try teaching kids why they can't have them 'everyone else does'.

Yes, they just uped the fine this year to $250.00 and it didnt seem to stop anyone. I dont even have to travel out of state, just down the road to the city limits and as you said, the street is linrd with them. Teaching the kids whats wrong and right would be hard when everyone else is setting them off. Thanks, Terry By the way, Thanks for the comment on my page

I am from Guangzhou, China. Some years ago it's prohibited to play the fireworks and firecrakers here. Selling these products are illegal. So it's not possible to buy it. I think it's a good rule. As such kinds of products easily harm to children. They don't know the danger and the accidents can happen all the time.
