Are you a people pleaser?

Are you the type of person that will go way out of your way to help others, even if it's inconvenient for you? Do you find that this helps you make more friends? Or, do your "friends" end up using you for what they need, and then never bother returning the favor?

I have always been a people pleaser. Don't ask me why, I just have. I have actually found that it does help you sometimes, yet works against you in others. People do try to take advantage of you but that is when you have to stand up. Walk softly and carry a big stick.

as I get older I learned to do it fairly, so I don't forget my own needs when I'm taking care of others. to some people I could go the extra mile and sacrifice, but I do this because they have done it for me or I know them well enough that they won't take advantage of me. I surely return the favor, either it's good thing people do for me or bad things like knife in the back.

I tend to avoid people. If there are people in this world that I do not avoid (and there are!) then those people must be extremep special to me. As a rule I tend to avoid people, because I prefer being on my own, but there are a few wonderful people in my life whom I just can't get enough of.

Unfortunately I am one of those people pleasers. I try to do anything I can so people will like me. I found out that it doesn't help at all. At work I just got taken advantage of. I tried always to do my best, and to cover for people who didn't. It didn't help at all. My wife has been telling me for years that it won't help. I've finally decided she is right, but I have a hard time changing. It doesn't make more friends, just frustration.

I do admit I am a people pleaser. However, I feel that the people that I MUST TRY TO PLEASE to the best of my capabilities are my family and dear friends. For people that I barely know, I do try to please them but I feel that I do that out of trying to be good mannered.
However, my sister has pointed it out to me that I try to please people to much and she has therefore labelled me a "pushover". Although I don't like being labelled, i know it's my own fault for being that way.
I don't think though that this characteristic of mine is the one that makes me gain more friends. I'm just friendly to begin with. And also, my dear friends are really great because so far i haven't felt that they are using me or taking advantage of me.. *touch wood*.. They usually do return the favor in any way they can.. like treating me for lunch or baking me chocolate cakes. lol!
I'm a pretty lucky gal, in that sense.. :)
