Room to roam for dogs.

We're thinking about adding a small to medium sized dog to our family, but are concerned that we don't have enough back yard space to accomodate such a pet.
How much outdoor space does a mid-size dog need to roam? What's the ideal size of a back yard?

If you have a backyard...even a small one that's fine. The key is that you take your dog on walks. Dogs lovvvve to go on walks. Plus depending on the dog you might even be able to let them loose without a collar. The dog my family had growing up was one of those kinds... we had a yard and she was fine with it, but she more loved when my dad would let her out and she'd just roam free walking around with him.
Unless you got some huge great dane or a greyhound who needs the running space, most dogs can adapt easily.

I have a 6 year old 60lb pitbull mix. I havehad her since she was 4 weeks old. And we are only just now moving to our first home with a backyard. My dog grew up in apartments and she is just fine. She spends most of her day on the couch or playing with our cat. We get her out for walks as much as possible but it's definitly not daily right now (she goes out for her pee and poop several times a day but comes right back in). She is perfectly happy. She will be happier I expect when she gets her new yard but I don't think a yard is necessary to own a dog at all, although it is nice for them to have a place to play that's just out the door and not a long drive away.
