Does anyone remember Blue Tickle Me Elmo?

During the mid 1990's Sesame Street brought out the Blue Tickle Me Elmo and kids went crazy over it. I can remember seeing news reports about how parents knocked each other over trying to get to the last Tickle Me Elmo. At the time we didn't think much about it, because we didn't have a child at the time. But, several years back we were able to get a classic Blue Tickle Me Elmo doll for our daughter. She adores it, and I can see why! It's so much fun.
However, after watching Sesame Street, one thing bothers me about the blue Elmo. Has anyone ever noticed how much he looks like the Cookie Monster. That's totally weird! He even has the same lopsided eyes. Did you ever notice that? Isn't Elmo supposed to be red?

I don't remember Blue Elmo but I remember Elmo was red and then the blue one was Cookie Monster who was my favourite at the time. If what you said was true then maybe this is why I missed Blue Elmo, because it looked like Cookie Monster. It's been so long I don't remember much of Sesame Street anymore.

I remember when Tickle Me Elmo hit the stores, but I don't remember a blue one. I don't recall even seeing a blue Elmo on Sesame Street. Didn't they come out with a Cookie Monster doll that laughed or something?

Yes I do, I actually remember it well because I purchased it at time when my son was in the hospital.
He was three years old and for moths he kept asking me to get the “blue tickle me Elmo” for him. In reality it was actually the cookie monster, but he assumed it was Elmo because they did look alike! He refused to get the red one because so many other kids had it, I would often get frustrated with him because it cost $35.00 and at that time I didn’t have the money nor the means to get it. I was a single mom pregnant with my second child renting a home and paying for a car, I really didn’t have that much to spend on an cookie monster…..lol…
But then one night my son went into seizures again, but this time he stopped breathing for a few seconds. I was in shock! I cried the whole time I was on the phone with EMS. We brought him to the hospital and he was admitted. The whole time I sat by his side, I kept thinking of the one thing that he truly wanted, it was the “blue tickle me Elmo” (cookie monster)….I sat there and giggled thinking of the times when he would help me put away the laundry just so I can see that he was helpful, and get him the Elmo….lol…I giggled about the sad face he would express when, I would tell him that I couldn’t afford it!
Then my tears came! I began to cry because I hated seeing my son in the hospital with tubes coming in and out of his little body! I jumped up and ran to the phone! I was calling the bank to check how much was my balance so that I could run out and get him the Elmo before he awoke! I had $55.00 that I have left for emergency with my gas for work and such. I didn’t care though,, I asked the nurse to watch over him while I was gone and I went and bought the cookie monster! It was on sale for $34.99 at Carmen’s Baby News!
When my son awoke and I took out the blue Elmo (cookie monster) to give him, he gave a huge smile and said thank you, more than I can remember…lol..
I must say Thank You to you for posting this discussion! It has given me a chance to share my story and it has managed to bring me back to an important stage in my life! Thank you for a great discussion!
