Why do people care so much about movie stars?

Seriously, why do you care what they wear and what they eat? Do you seriously what Brat Pitt and Angelina Jolie have for breakfast? Do you seriously care about Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan or whoever else going to rehab? They're just people, just like you and me except they wear about 10 pounds of makeup daily and starve themselves. Yay...now that's someone we should look up to.

I think it has something to do with the inner wishes each person has. All of us want to be somehow gorgeous, rich, and famous. But we all can't be stars. So since most can't be stars, people tend to look up to these people since they are living the 'dreams' of most of us. It's more of psychological though. We see these stars are always fresh-looking and happy, and we just want to live that fantasy. But we must remember these are also people. They have problems and trials as we do.

I'm not so interested in the day to day lives of celebrities, but I don't mind hearing the gossip. I watch all the Entertainment shows daily. In fact, some of my best My Lot discussions have come from celebrity news and gossip. Not sure why, but people love hearing about them. Personally, I don't understand the obsession. Being an actor is simply a job like any other. Except it pays more money.

thank you! "being an actor is simply a job like any other." Why don't people realize this? They're just normal people with a lot of makeup!

It's simply entertainment I think. People love to gossip; that's a fact of life. I personally really don't care about celebrities or what they wear, and I too get annoyed with all the publicity and stuff they get. But as long as it keeps people entertained, it's not going to change.

My husband and I can't stand celebrity worship. Don't get me wrong - we have our favorite actors and performers, and we like to learn a bit about them, especially what influenced them and the like. But, I have no desire to know anything about their private lives. It's none of my business, just like it's none of anyone else's business what goes on in my private life. Especially when it comes to adopting kids and having babies. My neighbors don't get the limelight for having a child, so why does a celebrity gets the limelight for doing something thousands of women do everyday? Makes no sense in my book. People are losing jobs right and left, more and more are homeless, American kids are in poverty, need food and shelter, and medical care. Do they get the limelight? Nope, Britney getting drunk and showing her genitals is more important than starving citizens. Makes you wonder how mankind keeps evolving, ya know?

I think most people are so afraid to actually have an opinion these days, can we say "celebrate diversity!" If you actually have an opinion you're considered closed minded. But does anyone realize how stupid they sound when they have no opinion? Anyway, you're right people focus on the wrong things.
