Recognizing a suicidal person!

When a person attempts suicide, it affects the family, friends and the neighbors too. It is a terrible tragedy and the person needs professional help as soon as possible. A dear friend of mine attempted suicide with booze and zanax and the authorities were called in. He was transported to emergency immediately and after he was stable he was transferred to a Psychiatric ward. There are many people that care for him which he apparently did not know previous to his attempt on his life. Obviously, he was hurting and only his dear friends knew it. However, they did not know the extent of his pain. Needless to say, we must all become aware if a relative or friend is talking about suicide to be there for him or her. Luckily for my friend he will survive this attempt on his life, but we must be more aware in the future to help him with encouragement and love. I pray that he will obtain the appropriate professional help he needs now.
