myLot said a word I used violated their terms of service. I'm puzzled!

I just replied to a post asking for my favorite recipe. I replied desribing how I like to make a Sunday Seafood Delight consisting of crabs, clams and a nice "mixed" salad. Instead of using the word "mixed" I used the word "tossed". To my surprise I received the following messege from myLot: The following word or words violate myLot's terms of use. Please reword your submission and try again. Is the other word I used for mixing the salad offensive to some people? What could have caused them to say that word or combination of words violated myLot's tems of use? This is the first time I have ever heard of such a thing. I am very puzzled. You can read my post at the following discussion. The so called offensive term was near the bottom of the post. As you can see, I changed the wording to "mix". http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/698924.aspx Tell me what you think about this. Lloyd

it's just an oversensitive program doing it-it pulls any word that might even be construed as borderline offensive irregardless of context. i've had to change words a few times myself, though i will say sometimes it's hard to find a new one that fits well with the paragraph.

It really must be a very sensitive program if it thinks that "t-ssed" salad is a bad word. lol. Thanks. Lloyd

i don't really know that if the wording or the idea that could have been expressed might be the cause but i've encountered a similar challenge and i had to change my words in order to post my discussions as i was told i chose not to view muture content but my discussions contains things of muture nature. so i do reword. maybe that's her privacy policy.

If toss, tossed or tossing is a no-no then why were you able to use it in this discussion and why can I use it now in a response?

It was the combination of using "tossed" with "salad" that caused the problem. This has to be a bug in the system because in no way did I use it in a offensive manner. Lloyd

I have absolutely no idea what the problem is with the word you mentioned. It is weird. Oh, well, at least you were patient enough to try a different word.

Some previous posts might have explained what the problem might be in this case. Trying a different word was easy, but I don't see why I had to edit my post like that. Lloyd

Sometimes mylot admin causes us headache. There is a post a replied about badminton and of course i can't help mentioning the ball used as shuttle c*ck but it's not worth as mylot will notify you to change that word. Is there a synonym for shuttle co*ck? I don't understand them!

When I started here I wrote something and I can't even remember what the word was I got wrong , but I read it through and through and in the end I deleted the whole discussion as I couldn't do it without the word and I would never write anything that was offensive , and yet there are discussions in here that are disgusting and are allowed , I will never understand it xx

I can't understand it either. I've come across some gross conversations here at myLot that were allowed. One girl was posting so many disgusting discussions her rating was down to 2. I had never seen a rating that low, so you know how bad her topics were.

It's a warning, atleast you didn't get an autoamtic ejection!;)LoL I really am puzzled to that word also, just don't know the components of that word to be considered offensive. But I guess we just have to oblige and let them be, just try to be careful not to use that word again!;) There's also another mylot user member who received the same warning as your's, as she also used the word "t*ssed".

I don't think they'd do that, they always give us fair chances in every ways!;) But I do want to thank you for posting this, most of us got more aware of using such words. But you did good, not like others who whine and complain, that I was always wondering why still do stay in here when they have the option to leave this site.. LoL

No I would never whine and complain about myLot. It's still one of the best sites on the internet. They pay and they pay on time. Now many so called "internet business opportunities" can make that claim. Lloyd

I would hope they wouldn't automatically remove me for such a minor mistake. Hopefully one day they will explain why certain word hit a sore spot with myLot. Lloyd

Wow--- tossed is a bad word? I’m confused also- Makes no sense to me- I wonder why they flagged it- But I’m also glad that you found another word to work in it’s place.

I had to find another word to replace it. That was a very long post. I would have hated to just loose it. I'm still confused too. Lloyd

Are you sure this message actually came from MyLot? This seems very strange. The word you talk about, used in any form, should not be against MyLot rules. This sounds very strange. I have seen far more offensive terms on here and I don't think they had a problem with it.

I'm positive the message came from myLot. It was posted in bright red. It is very strange and I too have seen many posts that were more offensive than "tossed" ----"salad". Lloyd

I know that you may be upset about this, but trust me it is okay to laugh at it. I have had this happen to me several times and it is always funny to me. I will use a perfectly innocent word not even thinking about a double meaning and to me it is funny that the moderators are thinking about things that would never have crossed my mind. When I think of the other meaning, I can't help but laugh.

I'm not upset about it at all. I was just a little puzzled as to why that term violated myLot's terms. I have to admit, I never knew it had a double meaning. Lloyd

I just went through and read some of the other responses and they are right about the meaning of that word. Actually the term is to**ed your cookies. It also describes the condition of one who has had too much to drink.

So does this now mean thatany normal everyday word thatbecomes a slang word is going to be put in to the filter? If this is the case the whole english language will eventualy be banned from mylot. If you ask me, it is political correctness and sterility gone insane. I also notice the filter works in private messaging. Now I can understand filtering CERTAIN words from the public view but privately it is another matter.

You have a point. Sooner or later, the whole English language will be banned. They probably need to lighten up and let the people here at myLot police themselves. Lloyd

I have had to change a few words a couple of times as well. I gues they want to make sure there is no foul language or anything that would offend other members being of a sexually nature. I can see their point. So don't worry about it. It happens to the best of us.

I just don't see how "tossed" can be considered foul language. People are really getting very sensitive these days. Lloyd

I have encountered this and it appears that it is a program that watches these discussions being made. I had responded about duck and that you needed to pr1ck it all over the skin so that fat would drain off and the P word was flagged. So no context is allowed for. Good thing we have command of the English language so we can use substitutions and get our points across. Anyway, Good luck with all your future discussions and responses.

They need to upgrade the way they observe different words. Pri-ck can be used in many ways, but it also has non offensive uses. Lloyd

Well, that's a new one for sure! The first thought I had was that we have lots of "slang" uses for many words such as cherry, crabs, tomato, etc. that have been derogatory, but tossed? That's a good one. I wish we could find out for sure. Sometimes you wonder if it is safe to discuss anything at all.

I have had this happen to me once. Believe me the word I used was in no way offensive but I just figured it must be their system misunderstanding the word I used for another one so I just changed it. Let's see if I can get away with saying it now. The word was crap. That was it. I don't know why they would take offense to the word you used. Weird! :)

Well "crap" went through this time. LOL. It must just be an over sensitive glitch in their system. I don't thing anyone I know would ever use a word in an offensive manner. Lloyd

Wow! That is wild. Who would think that a word such as "tossed" would violate anything? I don't see how in any context that word could violate anything. I would question it. There are a lot of other words that could be a lot more offensive.

Where I come from "tossed" means to throw or fling. Here's an example. "The ship tossed in the stormy sea". To equate it with anything else is ludicris. Lloyd

Hi Naty. I never intended to offend anyone. I think it might just be a oversensitive program. Hopefully we will all find out soon. Lloyd
