I'm not sure what you are asking, but fish do need oxygen, so either a pump or live plants. Some fish do better with the live plants though.

You'll have to go to a pet store to find out the names, but the theory goes like this: live plants help with the filtration, provides natural oxygen to the fish, and provides better protection for the smaller fishes. There are certain plants that are better with certain fish. I'm sorry I can't speak more on the subject. I just remember the discussion at the pet store when I got my tank.

Any of the labyrinth species can live without an oxygen pump. The most common one is a Beta. I don't know how big your aquarium is. You can't put 2 in one tank unless there is a divider. If it is a small tank, 1 Beta should be fine. They come in quite a variety of colors.
