Help! I'm having a picnic next weekend and want to make some awesome side dishes. Can you mylottians come to my rescue and give me some fabulous ideas of what to make and serve. I am planning on having about 11 teens and 15 - 20 adults. I am looking for side dish ideas/recipes and drink alternatives beside the standard soda & ice tea. Help, please share your ideas with me! Thank you.

the taco salad someone suggested really is very good, i put catalina dessing in it however instead of the others. myself, i make a pasta salad and theres never anything left to it at the end of the day. get that tri pasta twists, the kind that are regular, tomato and spinach. theres a slight variation in the taste of each, plus they add nice colors as well. chop up onions, carrots, raw broccoli, cukes, celery, black & green olives, and pretty much anything else you like for veggies, and mix it all with GOOD italian dressing. voila, simple and positively yummy!

I have an idea for you. This is a unique recipe but still very delicious. I have been making this juice for quite some time and everybody here loves it. It's easy to prepare. Just blender 4 whole cucumbers in the mixer with sugar. Then put it in a container and add fresh lemon juice. Add ice to it. You can serve it now. So easy, isn't it?

It is kind of tough to say, being that I don't know if it's just a picnic where everything needs to be just pull out & serve / pull out & eat. I'm actually thinking that if there's no place to have a barbecue, it would be easiest to get a submarine sandwich, & maybe with all those people, see if each person can bring something. I never liked potato salad or macaroni salad, or anything that involved mayonaise, but I guess those choices are already obvious. Some vegetables can be bought & maybe peeled & washed, such as carrots, maybe celery, & maybe others I have not thought of. As for drinks, maybe various flavored water might be a big hit. They are usually full of vitamins, & are a lot better than soda.

One dish that I like to take to a picnic is a taco salad. It is very easy to make. Take the bag salad or lettuce. Add ground beef that has been made with taco seasoning. Add tomatoes, cheese, banana peppers, black olives ( whatever other veggies you like). Right before the food comes out, crunch up nacho cheese doritos and mix them in. For the dressing mix french with either italian or ranch dressings. Top with dressing and mix all together. It is always a crowd pleaser. For drinks, I have gotten the strawberry daqueri mix and make the virgin ones for the kids and the reg ones for the adults. Blend the mix with ice till it is like a slushie. Sometimes I mix with a 7-up.

One of my favorite places to go to get really good recipes and ideas is http://www.kraftfoods.com/ or http://www.bhg.com/ Kraft Foods even have these "one bag" things where you can make an entire meal out of one grocery bag full of things, they do this with a weeks worth of dinner too. It's pretty cool. I hope that helps
