Hmm, it depends! They might ask questions about your past jobs (what did your responsibilities consist of? what was your biggest accomplishment or failure? were your fired? why did you leave it?) or questions about the position you're currently going for (why do you want this job? why should we hire you? do you have any experience? what do you know about our company?) or questions about yourself (how many hours do you usually work? what would you like to get paid? do you work best alone or with a team? how do you cope with pressure?) or questions about the future (what are your goals for the next 5-10 years?)...the possibilities are endless really! It's hard to say what the best answer would be...you can pretty much be honest while puffing your abilities up a bit! But practice with tricky questions. If you were fired from your previous job and they ask why, you can say something like "The job wasn't working out, my manager and I decided that it's best if I moved on to another position where I can put to practice my abilities more frequent." or something like "I could've done things differently in my last job, but it was a learning experience and I've grown and am wiser. I would love to prove it to you." It just takes a lot of practice. Good luck! :)

If they ask why they didn't renew your contract, you can say that you (or you and your boss) agreed to not have your contract renewed because you wanted to find another job that provided you with better opportunities and more responsibilities. You can say that at the time of starting the other job you were younger, but now that you're more experienced, you're more confident (or ambitious) and are looking for bigger and better things and want the opportunity to take on greater tasks - things that your last job couldn't provide.

First let me just say it now, I hate job interviews. And they always make me nervous. But I have found the jobs I really don't care about are the ones I get. So I guess I am more comfortable in those interviews. These are the questions I normally got asked... -Why did you apply with our company? Or Why do you want this job? - Give me your strenghts and weaknesses? - Tell me of a time/situation when you made a mistake and how you overcame it? - Where do you see yourself in 5 years? - Why should I hire you over the other canditates? yada yada yada... I hate the formal questions, but I try to have all my answers ready and prepared before an interview. I also try to research the compnay a little online first so I can say things about the company. They will also ask about your past jobs/responsibilites and any gaps in your resume. Be prepared for that. I was fired once for something really stupid (e-mail policy) and they let a bunch of others go at the same time and they were downsizing as they didn't reaplace me. So when I went on interviews instead of saying I was fired (which sounds horrible) and I did say this a few times as I wanted to be honest. I ended up just saying they let me go as they were downsizing. They cannot ask an employer why you left. When calling for employment verifications all they can ask (as I am a payroll coordinator) is your job title, the dates you worked there, (and sometimes they ask would you rehire) And I always say we don't give that information out as I am just the payroll coordinator and I wouldn't have that information. So sometimes it is good to not say everything but don't lie either. Sometimes just wording it a different way helps. Good luck on your job interview.

wow.. very well said.. thanks for sharing here your experiences.. but i have another question.. how do you answer the question whats your stengths and weaknesses? i find it really hard to answer..

What I normally say is my strenghts are my strenghts. Like I LOVE computer and working on them, I am a VERY fast learner, etc. My weaknesses (I hate to answer this question) would be that I am a perfectionist. (which sometime employers like to hear because they know you will do a good job) but sometimes this could hurt you also. I never know what to say on my weakness. Or another good one to say is that you would love to go back to school to turn you weakness (of a formal education) to a strength. I don't know maybe some other myloters can help you on this one question also.

There are several levels of questioning. The first level is to put you at ease. They will ask you a few questionsa about yourself and why you want the job or why work for this company. The next level is specific to the job and your skills and ablities. The third level is your chance to ask questions. You should research the company and have some questions beyound the salary, benifits etc. Be prepaired to explain gaps in you resume and work history. Are you taking a job for which youa re over qualified or under qualified. You need to sell yourself to them and they need to sell themselves to you. You have the right to refuse a job if it is offered.

From past experience, interviewers may ask applicants some of these questions: - why did you apply for the job? or what is your motivation for wanting this job? - why you think the company should select you over other candidates? - what can you value-add or contribute to the company? - if you came from another job, they may ask why you want to leave that job? - if you had relevant experience, they may want to find out more about this experience, what you have handled before, your strengths and areas of expertise - if shift work is required or you need to work under certain work conditions, they may ask you if you mind working under such conditions. They will want to assess your job aptitude, attitude, drive and motivation, as well as your character to see if you are suitable for the kind of job offered. Your dressing and manners are also important - dress neatly and presentably. Knock before entering the interview room, address the interviewer and sit properly during the interview. One important thing is to arrive early or on-time. Never be late for the interview because it gives the interviewer a bad impression on you. Hope all these tips help you. All the best.

Hi there heartsick, I will answer your last question first, "is it okey to ask for the salary?" no, it is best not to ask for the salary before you actually get accepted into the company, because it would sound like you are only going there for money. Ok, here is a list of what they will commonly ask, i studied this in school for careers. - Why have you chosen to apply for a job in our firm? - What understandings do you have for our company and what it does? - What are the recent innovations/contracts/major business partners of this company, (they sometimes ask that to see if you are really interested in the job, only if it is a big firm, like transnational corporations) - What are your interests? (so they can see whether your personality fits the job) these are the only ones i can think of right now.... one thing is to remember to shake their hand before and after the interview... leaves a good impression hope this helped you and hope you make it for the job! =D

just be yourself.. and have confidence. tips: -u have to be aware of ur own capabilities -u should know your weaknesses -u should know ur field -be able to speak in english ..good english is not a must unless that job is related to communications -using canned answers should be avoided, nobody would ask you canned questions in an interview nowadays -do not ask for the salary, it would be unethical -avoid telling lies know yourself and be spontaneous. do not ask for commonly asked questions, preparing answers for those (common questions) will just mess up your mind.. then you'll be surprised that the questions youv prepared for wont be asked.

when my dad hired people the first thing he would ask ..is do you have an alarm clock??? I think dependabilty is on the top of the list....Companies will deal with training issues and other things....but dependabilty....thats what they look for in your resumes ..along with a positive attitude.....not being afraid to toot your own horn enough to show confidence and determination.....

well, the most common asked questions is that you're name, or you are requested to tell something about yourself, your educational background, if you have a work experience you are asked what was your position to the job and why did you resigned from your work, the reason behind it, your expectation in the job you are applying for and why are you applying for the job, any expected salary...and if given the chance to be hired what would you do to help the company..etc...just personal stuff...just be yourself and you can be on your way to success...goodluck!

I have been interviewed for more than 8 times till date. And the most common question every interviewer asks is 'Tell me something about yourself?' I think this question should get the most of the marks.

Hi heartsick! :) First of all, you are asked to say something about yourself. You should be confident about what you know and should speak with confidence. :) They will also brief you about the work, give you the job description and ask you about your willingness to do the job or if you will be able to cope up with the work. HR will also asked questions about the reason why you applied to their company, how did you learn about their company, or if you know someone in their company. They will also ask regarding your family. And if you got a previous job, they will ask how long you stay there, what were your work, why you resigned, how's your employer... They will also ask about your accomplishments and strength and most of all, they will ask this short yet very importatn question: "TELL ME ABOUT YOUR WEAKNESS." Be prepared to answer that. I hope this helps. Take care and God bless! (",)

I have not go for any job interview before.I think the first common question they will ask is whether we have experience working life before. What does we do in our previous work.Sometimes, its okay to ask for the salary and sometimes don't depend on the person. Some may find those who are interested in working with them without really matters about salary. To have a job is to have a good salary right!and so some may appears fine if you were to ask them about salary. Try to look and see for yourself the person that interview you;if you think its okay to ask the person,go ahead. All the best for the Job interview. =)

The questions I always have problems with are the ones "Describe a time when you provided good service" or "Why should we pick you instead of someone else applying" I am horrible at job interviews and hate them as well.

Most of the questions start with tell something about yourself, why will they hire you? Yes, it's ok to ask for the salary.
