It really make's me mad when someone goes theu the 10 item express line in front of me with 30 items. One or two more doesn't bother me.One time I was at the register and had 10 items. While I was standing there I grabbed a candy bar off the rack and the cashier rang up the 10 items and ten told me that I was going to have to pay for the candy seperatly because the register would not allow her to rin more then 10 items. But what about the person who had 30 items?Have you ever came across this?

All the time and it drives me nuts! The other thing that bothers me is going through the express line because it is suppose to be faster, but then the checker is so slow that you could have went to a regular line and made it out quicker.

that's so true, too. we think that express lines are really fast. but we just realize later that it's a lot slower than regular lines. most people rush to express lines making it a very long line for us.

I know from experience that they will put a new person,in training to work the express lanes.

That doesn't make sense at all..If she can ring up 30 items then she can most certainly ring up 11 items..She had some nerve..Sometimes when it is really busy and I have had more than 10 items the cashier will tell me to come over..When it is not busy I go to another register..

You have got to be kidding me. If a register can ring up 30 items, it can CERTAINLY ring up 11. I agree with you on the express lane, it's hard to find people who actually stick to the 10 items of less rule just because they don't want to wait in longer lines. *rolls eyes*

Hi dfollin thats something I will never understand is the express line. There are always people with over 10 items. I dont think they should be execpted. Do you? Its not right to the rest of. I really like the do it yourself lines.

I usually try to use the do it yourself line's too. But,some store's don't have them.Since they wil let large orders go thru the express line, then why have them?

I think that is just an excuse from the cashier, that the machine can only ring 10 items at a time. Because I've been at the supermarket and a women at the 10 items or less line has asked me to come check out with her because no one was in line. So she checked me out and I had about 25 items. I can only remember one time where I went in a line when I had more than the required items. It was 7am in the morning and hardly anyone was at the market. The self checkout line was out of order, and no regular checkers were in any of the lines, ready to ring anyone up. So I found two girls that were each minding the 10 items or less line. I asked one of them to check me out with my stuff (about 16 items, mostly small) and she was really hateful. I mean, I'm sorry if that ticked her off, but there was literally no one else there! I know that is not what you are talking about though, and I agree with you. If they go over by one or two, fine. Especially if they have children I don't care. But when someone has a full cart load, I just have to hope the cashier points it out to them. Most of the time they don't though. They just ring them up anyway.

That's Ok,sometimes I get off subject or think of something else that occurs to close to that question or something want's me to say something from another reply.Sound's like that cashier did not have her coffee that morning.I have worked situation's like that and the supervisor should have put someone at a full service register.

It also makes me mad when I go to the express line and some people are in that line with 25 or 30 items. I myself would not do that, I at times may have had up to 15 items and went to that line. I have never heard of a register only ringing up 10 items though like that cashier told you..They must be some new registers or somthing. So that person behind you with te 30 items would have to be rung up 3 times.

yes i know how you feel... i also don't like it when people will lots of items queue in express line... i work as a cashier myself and i won't serve customers with lots of items if i am in express line... it has to be fair with everybody else who are queueing in the other normal queues... like you say, 1 or 2 items extra is fine... but 30??? no way... and i think the cashier is being ridiculous to you by not wanting to serve you just for 1 more extra item... i will argue with him/her if i were you...

Yes I have. Its really frustrating. They create these lines so people can get in and out fast. I wonder why the cashier checks out people with 30 items?

OMG-- that too drives me crazy! I get so fed up- the express line is there for the speedy shoppers with few items- It also drives me crazy when you have a few items and go through and write a check out- OMG-- Does anyone write checks anymore at the grocery stores? My parents even use a debit card now- Take money or use your debit card- Holy!

Dear twin, if there is something that really gets to me is that kind of stuff!!!!! I never had a cashier doing that about ringing the 10 items and asking to ring the other one separately, but maybe that would actually be a solution, because being in a hurry, getting something really fast, approaching the express lane where there is a maximum of 10 items written down and then having to wait behind people that have 30 and 40 really bothers me. The express lane is just that - or supposed to be - a lane where people that have just a few items don't have to wait long. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :P

I doubt the register lock the number of items :P I would not mind pay separately if I do not have to queue again. Otherwise, I will definitely make a fuss out of it. Or I just don't buy the additional item. I too came across such queues but it does not really bother me much because all queues are equally long. At least I do not see a trolley basket in this queue. Just a basket which I am not able to count the number of items.

it happens because there are people who are not considerate of others and doesn't know how to follow the rules. i guess it's also the fault of the establishments who doesn't strictly implement their rules and let the people get away with it. if only they would do so, then people will be more disciplined.

Ugh I hate this. It's called an EXPRESS lane for a reason right? Why put the new kid on a line that is supposed to be faster? Of course - as you said, it doesn't make much sense when the 10 items or less line allows you to bring in as many items as you wish. I mean - if it's obvious they grabbed 10 candy bars while waiting in line which totals their count to 20. Yeah I'd let'm go. Otherwise - it's the customers fault for trying to squeeze that much stuff in a line that has a plainly viewed sign saying "10 items or less!"

I haven't had to deal with someone with that many items in the express line. I would definitely say something though. The point of that line is for people who don't have much to be able to get through more quickly. Hence the name express. If the cashier at that line doesn't say anything to that person, then that's ridiculous. I agree that a few more than 10 items is fine. But 20 more items is just ridiculous!

i love to follow rules. when the express line says it will only take 10 items and i have eleven, i won't try my luck and take the express line. i either drop one item to continue being in that line or go to the line who takes in more than 10 items. i have encountered people falling inline in the express line with so many items in their baskets. and i really hate seeing people like them. it's not just right... anne

I have never heard of a register that would not work for over ten items. Once I was accidently in an express check out line. People kept looking at me funny, I wondered what was going on. I had a full cart, thankfully no one got rude or loud with me. It wasn't until I was emptying my cart that I realized I was in the express lane. I apologized and was embarrassed about it. The check out lady was nice and said don't worry about it and waited on me. So it is possible for someone to not realize they are in the express lane. I try to be more careful after that.

That woman had to be making a point. I worked in retail with express lanes and I have never heard of such a thing. I do think alot of the time people don't pay attention to the express sign. They should pay attention. The cashier probably just takes them so they don't have a confrontation. As a cashier, there is nothing more embarrassing. If there is long lines I would not let them come to my line.

That drives me nuts too. And the other thing that gets me are the people who drive to the very front of the store and let someone out to go into the store. They then stay parked right there in the way, causing traffic jams and making people with shopping carts go around them. It is probably the people they have dropped off that are grabbing 30 items and going through the express. Lol My husband and I stop by the store often and I will wait in the car with my son while he runs in for what we need. I can't even tell you how often I see the above seen happen. Why can't they just park and wait for the person to come out then drive up to pick them up. They are usually on the phone and oblivious to all the trouble they are causing around them.

I know you are speaking of express lines here and I don't see how a register can ring only 10 items. I think she must have been pulling your leg. But even when I am in a regular line, and someone has only a few items behind me, I will let them in front of me. Only because, that is the way I would want to be treated. And I have had people do the same for me.
