Does your Cat Lick Your Hair?

My kitten thinks my hair is the most fascinating thing when it is wet. Is grooming me or what? Does anyone else's cat do this?

Awww - sweet. The only one of mine that does that is little Lily. She only ever licks my partner's hair though - ever mine! Not sure if it's because they think they're grooming, or if it's just a way of showing their love. A Mother cat often licks her kittens just as a way of comforting them and showing that she loves them, and cats who are siblings often do it to each other too, so I've always thought that was the reason.

My cat licks my hair and my face. She also likes to lick my boyfriends beard. I don't know why but it's funny how she does that.

Out of my 3 cats, I have one cat who licks me like crazy. She has been doing this since she was a kitten, and I never know why. She doesn't lick my hair, but she does lick my hands and arms, and only at night when I'm trying to sleep. Sometimes I think it's cute, but most of the time it gets on my nerves. No one likes a wet rough tongue licking on their arm or hand when they are trying to go to sleep. I wish I knew why she did that! A while ago, I was researching her behavior online, and I came across an article that said when a cat licks you they are showing you that they love you a lot. It's basically their way of showing love, by 'cleaning' you. I have no idea if this is true or not, but if so my cat must love me to pieces.

My cat licks my face or arms since I have long hair, she finds it difficult to lick my hair. She licks or grooms my husband's hair though. Whenever she tries to groom or licks my husband's hair, he laughs because her tongue tickles him. We do say thank you to our cat after being groomed. At least, she knows that we do appreciate what she's doing. :)

Nice. Maybe I should thank my kitten too. Maybe she is just trying to dry me off.

I have a female cat that likes to sit on the back of my recliner and lick my hair. I enjoy the attention and it feels kinda good. She may be grooming me like I am another cat, but I have noticed that if I have been sweating she is even more prone to do it. I think she likes the salt on my neck! I watched about three videos of cats licking their owners on Youtube. What a riot!

I have long hair so my cat doesn't try to groom it. She DOES give me a bath... my arms and hands are not clean enough for her when I go to bed. She will do the kitty bread-kneading thing in my hair, though. I guess it's soft like momma kitty was and is a comfort issue. I think your baby is grooming you. That's all. Like she would another cat. I think it shows she likes you.
